A road worth travelling

Advantages: Fantastic Singer/Songwriter/Musician
Disadvantages: The CD has to come to an end (unless you use repeat button)

...it was perilous underneath". Stones in the Road - the title song tells of how life used to be and how different it is now in modern times with a beautiful melody. A Keeper for every flame - A toe-tapper of a song about being guarded and not giving all of yourself to a relationship "Sometimes its a fire burning out of control/Sometimes its a candle burning long and low" Tender when I want to be - a song about finding the right person Trisha Yearwood ...
...- an upbeat number about a woman pulling the strings and being in charge in the relationship. Lee Roy Parnell plays guitar on this track. The last word - self explanatory this one, a relationship breaking down, the woman walking away giving the man the last word, I think this is the weakest song on this album The end of my pirate days - this one is about leaving a life of adventure behind and living out the rest of your days in solitude - "And ...

Hymns Of The 49th Parallel

Advantages: You'll learn perfect singing technique from this album
Disadvantages: More songs on the album would have been great

Haunting voice, haunting songs, almost otherworldly. K D Lang really comes up with goods on this one. Her rendition of the Jane Siberry's "The Valley" is par excellence. The music is restrained yet emotional and seems to ebb and flow in all the right places with perfect timing. Of it goes without saying that on this album K D Lang's voice is the most commanding instrument in the ensemble. She must have had a lot of fun with this one because it truly ...

The perfect marriage of Rhythm & Rhyme…

Advantages: Wonderful singer
Disadvantages: None come to mind

The perfect marriage of Rhythm & Rhyme… When this album was released in the March of 1992, I personally had never heard of K.D. Lang. All this was about to change with the release of “Constant Craving” as a single from the album I was completely blown away what a performance, I had never heard anything like it before. On one hand the vocals reminded me of an old torch singer like Peggy Lee or Patsy Cline but on the other hand ...
...the feel of Elvis or Roy Oribson, this was enough of a reason for me to go and buy the album. As the album opened with the track “Save me” I held my breath this was heart stopping stuff, as I checked the sleeve notes I saw not only was she a voice to die for but she co-wrote all the tracks, all with her producers Greg Penny and Ben Mink. This track also contained some excellent “Lap Steel Guitar” playing by Greg Leisz, which ...

Dylan, Unplugged. Great musical journey.

Advantages: Dylan fans will love this.
Disadvantages: None-Dylan fanes my not.

Excellent sound quality thought-out. I think this is one of the best Live Dylan I have heard. Starts with the wonderful Tombstone blues-Clear messages great vocals. Then, settling goes into the romantic Shooting stars. Bursting into All along the watchtower followed by the times they are a changing’ makes you want to stand up and sway from side to side and join in with the singing. John Brown is harrowing; you can do nothing else but listen to ...
...then gets faster for Rainy day woman-this change in tempo is a real pleasure. A beautiful love song follows, this is really nice live and clear. Dignity is interesting-you have to just listen to it and enjoy. Knockin’ on heavens door is nothing unusual or exiting, just good music, and lyrics. Dylan finishes with God on our side a great finish to a great concert. ...

A postcard from Ammansford and the soul

Advantages: Fantastic po;itical, personal and domestic ongs
Disadvantages: Might be hard to find as she's not a mainstream artist

Politics in music is a tricky thing to get right. Saint Bono of Hewson with his hypocritical ramblings of stop world debt but I'll sue you for stealing my hat could put you off political music for life but luckily when its done right it is thought provoking and sublime. I'm thinking Barry McGuire's powerful 1965 hit “Eve of Destruction” and one of my new favourite singers Tracey Curtis with her second album “Picture Postcards” So who is Tracey Curtis? ...
...Ammanford in South Wales (half an hour from the sea, just off the M4 according to her song “The John Peel song”. Before her solo career and motherhood she was a member of the late 80s, early 90s band Shelley's Children. I discovered her hen a friend of mine lent me the CD and I've become hooked. ever since then. It is ironic one of Curtis's songs on the album is called “ I should Have Kept it Simple” as that is exactly what she does on “Picture Postcards”. ...
