Advantages: Light, very manoeuvrable, robust, very powerful suction Disadvantages: Initial outay is expensive, no ability to use mains power
I treated myself to this snazzy futuristic hand held Dyson vacuum cleaner last week. Like all new Dyson?s it looks rather odd as instead of the sleek design of most hand held machines it looks rather more like a big bulky drill. I?ve been curious about this machine since I first saw it advertised but as I haven?t been going out shopping much in the last couple of months I hadn?t actually seen one in the ?flesh?. I must admit to being surprised how light it actually as; at least twice as much as I had expected from its appearance and in general I am very impressed
I purchased mine from Dyson's web shop; I bought my main vacuum cleaner from there too. I find their prices are mainly very competitive and you usually get some kind of freebie with your purchase. With this hand held the incentive was a free dusting brush and an extendable ...
Advantages: Used to be very funny so re runs are hillarious. Disadvantages: Gone a bit too conservative for me.
Introduction
I have only in the last few years started to like Graham Norton, I think he was always a bit too old for me in his humour when I was a kid, so it wasn't until I had left school and was in college really that I actually started watching his show which was then on channel 4.
I found it absolutely hillarious. Since then Graham Norton has moved from Channel 4 to BBC1, and is no longer on 5 nights a week as it used to be, but it was absolutely hillarious when it was on channel 4.
More recently I have started watching the show again, and I must admit it isn't as funny as it used to be, but I think that is more to do with my estimation of Graham Norton himself has gone down, since he took over the Eurovision Song Contest, and also doing shows a such as How to Solve a problem like Maria and the likes, he just isn ...
Advantages: Insights into the true characters of Emily and Anne Bronte Disadvantages: Not an easy read
"Shirley" by Charlotte Bronte.
Penguin Classics. ISBN 0-14-043095-4
This is a gem of a book, written just after Jane Eyre and set in the time of the Napoleonic Wars, it is one of Charlotte Bronte's best.
It follows the fortunes of two women Caroline Helstone and Shirley Keeldar and their involvement with the Moore brothers. These relationships are set against the politics of England and the Continent at the time of the Luddite uprisings and Napoleonic wars respectively. In that respect Shirley has a farther reach as a novel than some of Charlotte Bronte's other more personal novels such as Jane Eyre.
It is particularly interesting as a literary piece because there is some evidence that the two principle female characters are based on Charlotte's two sisters Anne and Emily and as such give the reader some insight into what ...

Album Notes
Personnel includes: Shirley Collins (vocals); Davy Graham (guitar). Often cited as one of the most influential 1960s folk records to come from England, FOLK ROUTES, NEW ROUTES left Jimmy Page and Bert Jansch awestruck in its wake. Bear in mind that Shirley Collins was present when Alan Lomax discovered Fred McDowell, the ferocious slide-guitar bluesman. Most of the songs on FOLK ROUTES, NEW ROUTES are traditional reworkings with Shirley channeling old souls. "Reynardine" is an expressively haunting tale; Collins' voice hovers and wraps around dazzling finger-picking. Graham's unique tunings, which utilize Middle Eastern modalities, are prominent on tracks like "Hares on the Mountain" and "Boll Weevil Holler." The instrumental "Rid Mountain" allows for Graham's playing to truly shine. A definite high-water mark in the folk revival canon, FOLK ROUTES, NEW ROUTES is a timeless work waiting to be rediscovered.
Album Reviews
Q (11/99, p.162) - Included in Q Magazine's Best Folk Albums of All Time - "...married his guitar style...with her poignant voice. The result sent shockwaves through the folk establishment..." Mojo (p.64) - Ranked #10 in Mojo's "2005 Folk Albums Of The Year." The Wire (p.56) - "[T]he results have an ecstatic fever that is undeniable....Graham's arrangements and playing are miles away from the standard folk-pluck of the day, and Collins doesn't try to contemporise her approach....These disparate styles fit together beautifully." The Wire (12/00, p.37) - "...On this record Collins' ice maiden voice seems to occupy an airy space, floating cloudlike, chiming like a distance bell in an otherwise still and silent landscape....an effortless combination of American and English traditional song....with complex combination of influences..." Dirty Linen (2-3/00, pp.58-9) - "...renowned for being landmarks of the British folk revival....[Graham] was the first to bring jazz and blues elements to the popular folk tunes of the time....credit must also go to Collins and her stark and powerful voice, an affecting instrument..."
