Advantages: Great songs of a mature lady! Disadvantages: no hit single
Nelly's second album is surely the one where her music got the most mature moments. After her worldwide success "Whoa Nelly", with "I'm like a bird", her first single, playing all over the world, she rapidly reached the star system and faced a brand new life.

In "Folklore", she doesn't need catching beats to stick you to her chords and lyrics. She doesn't need to wear short clothes and sexy moves to make her music sounds good. In this record she doesn't seem to care much about the industry.

In "Folklore", she doesn't need catching beats to stick you to her chords and lyrics. She doesn't need to wear short clothes and sexy moves to make her music sounds good. In this record she doesn't seem to care much about the industry. Here, all that matters is the well constructed music and her stories with some amazing pearls that you won't stop listening.
In this record she mixes the stories of her Portuguese family heritage, with those of her urban life in Canada.
"Powerless" was the first single and is a pretty good song, but far from the best in this album.
"Fresh of the boat" is a brilliant music about the way she saw the fishing boats at Azores islands bringing the fish to the land, with an amazing mix of different music styles, from the most traditional to the latest pop.
"Força" was the original song for Euro2004 in Portugal and is surely known everywhere.
"Try" and "Childhood Dreams" are both great songs, in her pop melancholic way.
"Saturdays", my favourite song is Nelly and her guitar with the great collaboration of Jarvis Church voice in the back vocals.
"Explode" maybe one of the best songs in her career.
"Island of wonder" is an interesting collaboration with the Brazilian super star singer Caetano Veloso, a song with a tropical special kind of taste.

Producers include: Track, Field, Nelly Furtado, Lil Jaz, Mike Elizondo. U.K. issue features one bonus track, plus enhanced material. Portugese-Canadian songstress Nelly Furtado's 2000 debut album, WHOA NELLY, hit like a bolt out of the blue, its single "I'm Like a Bird" becoming a runaway smash. On the follow-up, FOLKLORE, she asserts her staying power straight out of the gate; the first song finds her repeatedly declaring that she's not just a "One-Trick Pony." Musical proof of that statement can be found throughout the album. Where WHOA NELLY mixed pop, rock, and R&B production techniques, its successor goes further. The aforementioned opening track for example, features accompaniment by renowned new music ensemble the Kronos Quartet, while "Forca" finds Furtado's celebratory exultation framed by the banjo arpeggios of Bela Fleck, mixed with an electronic rhythm track and percolating tabla. If that's not enough, even the king of Tropicalia, Caetano Veloso, drops in for a duet on the fanciful flamenco-meets-hip-hop reverie "Island of Wonder." The album closes on the quiet, introspective "Childhood Dreams," which slowly builds up moody, atmospheric layers of texture that neatly sign off on Furtado's bid for artistic longevity.
