It may be ten years since Dave Grohl brought out an album under the name 'Foo Fighters' - a self written album to showcase the former Nirvana drummer's talent. What he deliver was exactly that - an album of raw, exciting rock music that would lay the foundation for the Foo's smothering of the rock music market for the following decade.
Opening track 'This is a Call' would instantly be listened to by so-called 'critics' and they would pick the bones ... ...really is - they would come out empty-handed as this pop-rock tune is an eccentric, udbeat tune to help open the album, with somewhat confusing lyrics - showing the more 'fun' side of rock 'n' roll.
'I'll Stick Around' has an excellent opening riff, that does connect somewhat to the grunge genre. The varying tempo of quiet verses, quick choruses is reminiscent of the grunge genre, but works extremely well in this context too.
'Big Me' shows the ...

All Alone Review ofFoo Fighters - Foo Fightersby
BJEEE
Advantages: Amazing one man band Disadvantages: No Monkey Wrench or Everlong
...the summer of 1995, the Foo Fighters' self-titled debut album offered a distinctive mix of crunchy (if that’s the right word) guitars and breezy, power-pop (sort of) melodies (its really hard to explain because the Foo’s are so unique). And although Foo Fighters are now a full-fledged band (having released 3 albums), Grohl recorded this first album entirely on his own. He not only sings the songs, but plays every instrument too (one of ... ...drummer and background vocalist, the Foo Fighters' debut revealed Dave Grohl as something of an alternative-rock wizard. THIS IS A CALL (3:54)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The album starts with the song THIS IS A CALL. If I’m hearing it right it sounds like he’s singing about fingernails – among others. There are no lyrics written in the cover sleeve, which is a bit of a shame because he’s such a good writer. From what I can gather ...
The Foo Fighters are a mighty fine band and a band this good should have a good website.
Luckily, the Foo Fighters have a great website!
Updated frequently www.foofighters.com is the place to go if you need to know anything about the band. Tour dates, new releases, photos, videos, you name it - they've got it.
The site is easy to navigate with the ever present side bar.
First on the bar is News.
The news section covers pretty much everything ... ...or total rumour.
The Foo store isn't really part of the site, just a link to Artistdirect. They do have some good stuff on offer, but its all priced in dollars as its an American site. :(
The multimedia section is great, split into three sections - Audio, Video and Skins n' sh*t. In here you can listen to and watch interviews, live performances, watch all the videos from "I'll stick around" to "Generator" and download some cool wallpaper and skins ...
This is a Call Review ofFoo Fighters - Foo Fightersby
Andy.mack
Advantages: This is a superb return for Grohl and really puts his name out there as a front man Disadvantages: Not really an album for people who don't like Hard rock.
...for his new band the Foo Fighters. This was to be a band Grohl would lead from the front but this debut album was written and performed in full by Grohl himself taking on all duties from front to back.
After the release of the album the band was announced as follows:
Dave Grohl : Guitar, Vocals and Drums (obviously not when they were playing Live)
Pat Smear: Guitar
Nate Mendel: Bass
Track 1: This is a Call
The first single to be taken from ... ...be compared to many other Foo Fighters tracks.
Track 4: Alone + Easy Target
After a fairly mellow intro to this track the drums kick in and keep a steady beat throughout the entire track. Again as with Ill Stick around the lyrics aren’t the most memorable in places but still a great Foo’s track.
Track 5: Good Grief
This is more of the grunge rock we had come to expect from early Nirvana stuff. Probably the heaviest track on the album ...
Advantages: Dave Grohl gets into the spotlight for a great debut album Disadvantages: A couple of songs let it down slightly
...a new band, a certain Foo Fighters to be precise, and was in the spotlight once again. Foo Fighters self-titled debut album offered a distinctive mix of guitars, rock melodies and sheer brilliance that have made Foo Fighters success stories of modern rock. It couldn't have happened however if it weren't for the determination of Grohl, recorded this first album entirely on his own. He not only sings the songs, but plays every instrument to, apart ... ...drummer and background vocalist, the Foo Fighters' debut revealed Dave Grohl as something of an rock God. Man is he talented! When compared to the next albums by Foo Fighters, the front cover and how outlay of the casing is a tad weird, however I notice alot of bands have done this too. What is that gun? Some kind of Star Trek replica? Or maybe (as one of my friends so kindly pointed out to me after not liking the album) a Poo gun (this went hand ...
Advantages: Some very good tracks, more "accesible" Disadvantages: Not the foo's best, not EVERY track is amazing
...This is the third album from the FooFighters and I must say, it isn't quite as good as their other ones. There, I said it. This is a brilliant album and the songs which are good are VERY good, but the overall 'feel' of the album isn't up to their previous offerings. There are classics such as Stacked Actors and Generator which are bloody amazing but apart from those and 1 or 2 others, There is Nothing Left to Lose doesn't keep the listener occupied if you see what I mean.
It isn't as consistant or well polished as FooFighters/FooFighters or The Colour And The Shape and therefore it is my least favourite FooFighters album. However those wanting to get into rock would enjoy this as it is slightly more mainstream. Buy this if you like the Foos or want to get into rock....
...My brother started me off on the foofighters, always having thme on his cd pklayer in built up quite a taste for them. i recorded their first two albums onto minidiscs and then found ouitnfrom the web that they were soon to be releasing a new album. I bought it the day it came out and have not stopped listening to it since, it is never out of my cd player, only replaced by the other two albums, the colour and the shape and foofighters-foofighters. there are so many classic songs on this album, but the best has to be MIA, the last song on the album. It has such a good melody and beat to it and sticks into your head all day, until you get back home and listen to breakout, the other classic song on the album. a fantastic buy...
Advantages: Better lyrics than previous records, great riffs, some of the memorable songs. Disadvantages: Better Foo Fighter's records have been released.
...In many respects this is an album of two halves. Dave Ghrol himself infamously took a break halfway through recording in order to drum of Queen of the Stone Age's record "Songs for the Deaf".
Many people argue that half of this album features great songs, whilst the other's disappointments. Whilst respecting this view I could never succumb to it myself being a huge FooFighters fan. All other FooFighters fans will appreciate each and every song that is on this record, whilst FooFighters "beginners" if you will, may only enjoy some of the better songs, such as All My Life and Times Like These.
In my opinion it is in this album that Dave Ghrol's songwriting really begins to grow strong, with powerful riffs and meaningful lyrics, showing a large contrast from those featured in the first self-titled FooFighters album. This album...
