*** Who is Jackson Browne? ***

He is a very talented singer songwriter who is extremely passionate about his music.

He has worked with many famous people such as The Eagles, Steve Noonan, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Byrds, Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Cockburn to name a few.

Browne was born in Germany, but moved to California at a very early age. At one time he lived in the same apartment block as The Eagles! Sadly it was demolished for re-development some time ago.

Jackson Browne was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

*** How did Jackson Browne's career start? ***

His career began in 1966, he lived in Greenwich Village and was a backing singer in Steve Buckley's band. He released his first album in 1971 with Asylum records.

His first album was called 'Jackson Browne' however people know it as 'Saturate before Using'. This was an instruction for a free T-shirt, rather than the name of the album!

Jackson overcame critism early in his career from people telling him he couldn't sing! However, he was absolutely determined and his voice grew songer as he became more confident. I think he has a really lovely rich, calming voice which has lost absolutely nothing in all the years he's been singing.

*** What sort of music does Jackson Browne write? ***

Jackson Browne's energy has been ploughed into his work. He has had a challanging personal life and some of his albums reflect the heart-breaking situations he has found himself in. His albums 'Late for the Sky' and 'I'm Alive' in particulary have brought him many new and dedicated fans who have found great solace in his music.

Jackson not only writes love songs, he gives his time to performing in many benefit concerts. He does what he can to try and save the planet and to increase knowledge. Although this isn't done in a over-bearing way.

*** What are Jackson Browne's concerts like? ***

I have seen Jackson twice in the UK, he doesn't visit very often and so it was a real treat. The first time he was with his band and they had selected a song list of the rock numbers - it was fantastic. The second time was an acoustic concert where it was just Jackson and a small sample from his collection of guitars.

His fans absolutely love him and many have followed his career for over 35 years. A couple of people commented last time that every concert is different. Apparently Jackson didn't used to like doing requests at his concerts, but I haven't witnessed this side of him - now he actively encourages his fans to shout out and vote for their favourite tracks.

********* 'For Everyman' album ***********

This is Jackson's second album and was released in 1973.

Don't let the age of this gem put you off having a listen; these tracks have stood the test of time and many still feel fresh today.

This album has a very impressive number of artists who worked on it, these are people Jackson loves: David Crosby, Don Henley, Glenn Fry, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt.

*** Track listing ***

"Take It Easy"
"Our Lady of the Well"
"Colors of the Sun"
"I Thought I Was a Child"
"These Days"
"Redneck Friend"
"The Times You've Come"
"Ready or Not"
"Sing My Songs to Me"
"For Everyman"

'Take it Easy' was written by both Glenn Fry and Jackson Browne and is a masterpiece. It's a track you will most likely know if you hear it as The Eagles have recorded too. Browne particularly enjoys performing it in concert and if you want a track to listen to when you're out driving in your convertible in California - this is it!

'Our Lady of the Well'

This is a quiet and thought provoking track. Is he talking about a past relationship or about American history? I like this one; it's one of those tracks where you feel Jackson is talking directly to you and relaying his story.

'Colours of the Sun'

'I say goodbye to Joseph and Maria
They think I see another sky
And from my fallen window I still see them
I'll never free them from the sky'

'I thought I was a child'

This is one of my favourite Jackson Browne tracks, it is superb.
It tells a tale of a young and carefree guy who sees a women who takes his breath away and he becomes completely captivated by her.

'So lonely and so wild until you turned and smiled, By now I should have long been gone, But here I am still looking on, As if I didn't know which way to run'.

In the last verse Jackson gives a fleeting indication that the captivation leads to sadness and lonliness, rather than happiness.

'I thought I was a child until you turned and smiled
I thought that I was free but I'm just one more prisoner of time
Alone within the boundaries of my mind
I thought I was a child'

'These Days'

Another FANTASTIC song! This track has a beautiful temp and is wonderfully relaxing to listen to, even if you don't pay attention to the lyrics, although I love the way Jackson has carefully crafted them. This is a track he usally plays live as it's superb.

The track was written in 1967, but it's so right for today. It's about how time passes us by and how we never seem to have the opportunity to truly enjoy life as we are living it because time is moving too fast.

'These days--
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them'.

"The Times You've Come"

Well, Jackson has a way of truly getting to the crux of the matter(!). This is a song taken from an unusual point of view, it's about the interesting path two people take when they are getting to know each other intimately.

"Ready or Not"

This is a lovely and upbeat track which is full of optimism. Jackson describes how new and strange everything is when his (then) wife was pregnant with his child Ethan.

"For Everyman"

Another fabulous track and one which is close to every fans heart; the online Jackson fan club call themselves Everyman.
These lyrics seem more relevant today than ever before. It describes how we are all searching for a better life and contentment.

'Seems like I've always been looking for some other place
To get it together
Where with a few of my friends I could give up the race
And maybe find something better
But all my fine dreams
Well thought out schemes to gain the motherland
Have all eventually come down to waiting for Everyman'
