Forever Spice presents a glamorous photographic account of theSpice Girls' tumultuous 1998 ... more
World Tour. Dean Freeman's stunning work mixes black and white and colour full page photographs to reveal a unique portrait of the girls at the height of their global success. The photos are fantastic; funny, affectionate, eminently flattering, capturing the spiciness of five (then four) twenty-something, popstar millionairesses with the world at their fingertips. Geri appears only in the first five pages of the book, her departure signified by the photo of the mike box with hers poignantly missing. We see the girls rehearsing, preparing backstage, shopping, hugging (lots of hugging) partying and having a laugh in the boisterous way we have come to expect. The then-boyfriends (now husbands) also feature highly with almost as many pictures of David Beckham as Baby Spice--leaving no doubt as to the prettier of the two.Words from the girls are reserved for the end of the book with soundbites on everything from Geri's departure and the sacking of their manager, to keeping fit, homesickness, music and inevitably, marriage and babies. Unfortunately written quotes from the Spice Girls only serve to highlight a kind of fame-induced arrested development with some very non-rock and roll statements: Victoria on motherhood: "The washing you get through if you've got a sickly baby is incredible--you use up 10 outfits a day and you're washing all the time." Or Emma on South Africa: "We were in South Africa and we took over the whole place and started playing all the bongos. And I think we ate crocodile there as well. It tasted like chicken."But snipes aside--much of this girlie chat is the essence of the Spice Girls' appeal. The photographs show them playing the role of diva to stunning effect, living out every girls' pop star dream whilst the text shows a desire to prove they are as ordinary as anyone else. Ginger's presence is missed here; the showiest and most exuberant Spice, she seemed most aware of exactly how incredible it was that five such ordinary girls had created such a phenomenally successful girl super-power--and enjoyed the fame all the more. But despite this and the adult encroachment of boyfriends and babies on the girl power scene, there is enough life in Posh, Scary, Sport and Baby to indicate their success will be long lived and the title of Forever Spice may well prove true. Millions of fans certainly hope so. --Rachel O'Connor

HOLLER
This entered the charts at number one in 2000. It's a rather sexy mid-tempo song and Mel C's vocals really stand out as usual as do Mel B's on the intro. The song starts with strings and as it's a Darkchild/Rodney Jerkins production, there's the trademark "Darkchild" whisper.
There's an invitation to "play my game". Oo-er. Emma's great on the second verse and Victoria is good on the bridge between the second chorus.
TELL ME WHY
Another Darkchild produced R 'n' B track. This is rather dark and may suit a nightclub atmosphere but it's not good for just listening to. Emma's vocals really stand out here and the chorus is great with the women all singing over each other in perfect harmony.
LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY
One of the more poppy tracks on the album, this was a double A side with "Holler". It's a nice ballad about the state of the world and Mel C's strong voice opens the tune. Victoria is really strong here as well.
RIGHT BACK AT YA
This is another slowish R 'n B tune with big beats behind it. It's quite hummable, especially at the beginning but the harmonies feel a bit lame on this unmemorable tune.
GET DOWN WITH ME
This is yet another Darkchild effort but it's more in line with the faster songs we associate with the Spice Girls. Mel B sounds rather Geri-ish at the start so I have feeling she may have been pencilled in to sing this at some point. I could be wrong. Victoria is very strong on the second verse and the whole song is quite aggressive.
WASTING MY TIME
This reminds me of Chaka Khan for some reason. It could be a 1970s disco track at the start but then it falls into a mediocre R 'n' B track with electronic backing and rather weak vocals until Mel C takes over in the second verse. It's nothing more than a filler.
WEEKEND LOVE
This has a kind of 1980s feel to it and it's very Janet Jackson-ish. Emma starts the song and the finger snaps liven it up. It starts off slow and then gets louder in the chorus. It might benefit from being faster.
TIME GOES BY
This again has an 80s feel and the piano intro reminds me of "Alone" by Heart. Mel C's vocals are excellent and again it reminds me of Janet Jackson. A very sloppy ballad about love - "what if I told you, you're my destiny?" etc etc.
IF YOU WANNA HAVE SOME FUN
This song is probably the closest on here to their earlier material but it's still quite moody and there's nothing fun about it. They don't even sound like they're enjoying themselves on this R 'n' B track. Background music rather than a song to make you want to get up like "Say You'll Be There" for instance.
OXYGEN
This song has a boring intro and Mel C's singing isn't as good as usual. With a title like "Oxygen" I expected some huge floor-filler but it's another Janet-style ballad. "You're the smile on my face".
GOODBYE
This is typical Spice Girls and is probably the best track on here. It was number one in 1998 and it's quite a tearful ballad about the depature of Geri and the success of the group. "There's a better way for you and me to be".
Overall, the album is very average. The singing is good but the material is too much of the same kind of thing. A move into doing mainly R 'n' B wasn't a good thing. I would recommend to fans of this kind of music who may not necessarily like the Spice Girls but hardcore fans may be disappointed.
The album cover has Emma, Mel C, Victoria and Mel B all holding hands and wearing black. The inlay card has all the lyrics and credits and nice individual pictures of the Spice Girls.
Advantages: holler, if you wanna have some fun, goodbye Disadvantages: everything else
everyone in the music industry had written them off and said they had split but the fans which include me i am sorry to say were waiting in anticipation for the time when they different characters would join together again and give us the best that pop has to offer.
unfortunately i think everyone was disappointed even such a hardcore fan like me because they had changed so much.
i expected them to lose their personality a little and for the music ... ...far.
the album takes a completely different and ill advised approach to music and goes down the road of r'n'b.
maybe they could have achieved it but they did'nt the new album is terrible i bought it.
there are only a few good tracks on the album and good is the only word that can be used.
anyone who saw the girls doing their xmas concerts in christmas 99 would could'nt wait for the new album as then they had no intention of going fully r'n'b ...

Advantages: Might appeal to non-Spice Girl fans, since its a standard R'n'B record Disadvantages: A misguided move away from everything that made them who they were
...three more dull ballads on Forever - Weekend Love, Time Goes By and Oxygen. Unmemorable and devoid of inspiration, they drag the second half of this album into the mire. Lacklustre sequencing here has put just one barely uptempo song among the last 6 tracks, not a smart move when the material is already below-par.
Tell Me Why, Right Back At Ya and Get Down With Me are serviceable grooves with little to set them apart from the procession of faceless ... ...sure. Fun is something which Forever is chronically short of, and there is a sense of contractual obligation about the album. With successful solo careers taking off, and the personalities of each member becoming more disparate, the time was surely right to call it a day before this record. The gang mentality they built their appeal around has long evaporated with the passing of time, motherhood, and marriage. That was only to be expected, and perfectly ...

Advantages: The Girl's are back and are better! Disadvantages: It does not seem to be doing to well in the charts!!
After selling over 35 million albums world wide from only two albums, the Spice Girl's have drafted in some of the biggest names to help them with the prduction of "Forever" the eagerly awaited third album. "Forever" has a slick American R&B feel all the way through, the girl's have never sounded better but needless to say it has less character than their previous two offerings "Spice" and "Spiceworld". Geri has gone but has girl power? As one of ... ...ya, come on, we're changing the vibe, get with it" a slight hint that they still believe in girl power maybe? If you are looking for a repeat of album's 1 & 2 you may be disappointed but looking for something new fromthem and you will be pleasantly surprised, it is tru things get better with age and why should the Spice Girl's be any different, "Forever" is fun free, but it does have the girl's massive appeal and fantastic new sound all over it, ...

Advantages: Its the Spice Girls for pitty's sake! Disadvantages: Not the greatest collection of songs
When Spice World was released by the Spice Girls about 3 years ago few people would have reckoned on the followup album not being released until the end of the year 2000, but for one reason or another this is how it has turned out.
The album gets off to a cracking start with R'n'B track Holler and continues on a high note through track 2 to the third song 'Let Love Lead The Way' (my personal favorite).
'Brilliant' you think, its as good as an album ... ...songs fail to spark any sort of rela intrest and occasion are almost dire. There are some nice tracks with some catchy sections, but nothing that stands out as a potential future hit. Who knows what they'll find to release as their next single.
The last track 'Goodbye' (christmas No1 two years ago) is certainly a high note to go out on, but a couple of good songs don't save the album from falling into the trap of 'mediocre'.
Maybe they should all ...

Advantages: None really Disadvantages: Not enough tracks and there's no Spiceiness left
Oh dear, oh dear. The Spice Girls were once five girls with a dream to be famous - they didn’t take themselves seriously and were here to have fun. Then one of them left, and only after her departure did she flourish into her own. The other four let the fame go to their heads, and were so desperate to cling on to the Spice Girls name they held on to it but did nothing, until people began to notice and they had to release some material. There ...

Advantages: Great enhanced section Disadvantages: No B-sides
This is the last song to feature the divine Geri Halliwell. Although released two months after her departure, she still features on the record and in the video (and the cover too as a Spice Fairy). Viva Forever is a gorgeous Latin tinged song with great lyrics and a rather haunting melody. The mixes are OK but the enhanced section is the best. It features the great video, some fantastic photos, lyircs that move down the screen in time with the song, and best of all a little Geri fairy that flies on at the end and says 'are you sure you want to quit?'!!! (If you're unlucky one of the other four may fly on instead occasionally). One thing about the enhanced section: the cursor on it only works well on newer computers. ...
Advantages: a nice song to listen to Disadvantages: no one
Yes, I actually thinks it is the most interesting song produced by SpiceGirls, because is a soft and sweet one, a song that looks like loving arms surrounding you and the beauty of a neverending kiss.
Then I can say it is a good product to buy, because it is a song you can listen to every time you need it, every time you want to feel again these beautiful sensations ... a perfect soundtrack for a lovely day with your partner, a sweet lullaby for a hot night with your one-time lover, or simply the perfect soundtrack for a comeout with your family or the right song for Christmas.
And I could go on and on and on ...
... but words aren't able to describe music and its sensation: only life and its experiences, such as facts or rememberings can show you the beauty and goodness of a song, the feeling and the living of each personal ...
This is an enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks as well as multimedia computer files. Spice Girls: Melanie C. (Sporty Spice), Melanie B. (Scary Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Emily Bunton (Baby Spice). Producers: Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Rodney Jerkins. British import. A three-year gap separates FOREVER from the Spice Girls' previous studio effort, and while those glistening hooks are still present, a more mature approach is evident. "Holler", the first single, shows the girls going a funkier route, yet retaining the infectiousness that brought their previous singles such success. "Tell Me Why" is an eminently danceable number, and "Let Love Lead The Way" features tag-team lead vocals and glossy harmonies ripe for worldwide airplay. "Right Back at Ya" finds the girls presenting a united front to weather the media storm that came with the departure of founding member Geri Halliwell. "Goodbye" and "Oxygen" are both gorgeous ballads, the latter getting the magical production touch of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. FOREVER is a great pop album from the group that brought cotton-candy pop back to the mainstream in the late '90s. Spice fans and aficionados of contemporary pop/R&B should find plenty to enjoy here.
