After selling over 35 million albums world wide from only two albums, the Spice Girl's have drafted in some of the biggest names to help them with the prduction of "Forever" the eagerly awaited third album.
"Forever" has a slick American R&B feel all the way through, the girl's have never sounded better but needless to say it has less character than their previous two offerings "Spice" and "Spiceworld". Geri has gone but has girl power? As one of the tracks lyric's declares the girl's are "right back at ya, come on, we're changing the vibe, get with it" a slight hint that they still believe in girl power maybe? If you are looking for a repeat of album's 1 & 2 you may be disappointed but looking for something new fromthem and you will be pleasantly surprised, it is tru things get better with age and why should the Spice Girl's be any different, "Forever" is fun free, but it does have the girl's massive appeal and fantastic new sound all over it, a must for all fans.
Holler
This being the first material to be released by the girl's in almost 3 years proved the girl's still have what it takes and gave them their record breaking 9th
# 1, the familiar vocals are almost known by half the nation now and it is just a glimpse of what is to come from "Forever" slick R&B beats and highly polished vocals, this is one of the more catchier tunes on this long player, but after a few listens others take its place.
Tell Me Why
This has all the trademarks of US supergroups TLC and Destiny's Child, Mel B takes control on this track and is not unlike any material that you might find on her solo album "Hot". A punchy affair proving that girl power lives on, singing about relationships breaking up, I think myself it is a plea to Geri with strong lyrics that seem almost direct at their break up.
Let Love Lead The Way
This is the other half of the double AA single, and sees the Spice Girl's back to the old school with a beautiful ballad, this could have been a strong contender for a single on it's own a classic Chrimbo # 1, this is the sort of thing the public scream for that time of year, a fairly lite R&B number and a definite lighters in the air moment.
Right Back At Ya!
This is the classic from the album and definite single material, the girls prove they have what it takes "there have been tears along the way,but we're still the best of friend's" another declaration of girl power and a kick in the face for all the critics out there, who have continuously said "this is the end" well they are wrong this is just the beginning!
Get Down With Me
This is a little up beat 80's disco number and will have every Spicette bopping along and grab many more along the way, It is harmless filler for the album but could do well as a single, and will do well on the dance floor's this is the one to watch.
Wasting My Time
The title says it all do not know what the girl's were thinking here? A few William Orbit type twirls and very weak vocal's from all the girl's, it is very upbeat and poppy but the least memorable track from "Forever"
Weekend Love
This is almost a definite Christmas ditty, taking the same route as ""2 Become 1" with it's festive feel, with straight to the point lyrics that are getting the facts right about a romantic fling, although this track is slightly marred by a Mel B rap attack as their vocal's throughout have never sounded better, even Mrs Beckham takes a strong lead on this one as she does much more in the whole of "Forever"
Time Goes BY
Back to pop and R&B and again the girl's prove that they are so much stronger vocally, with the stunning Mel C stealing the centre stage on this one, but beautifully harmonised with the rest of the girls, you could just see the girls all huddled together around the roaring coal fire for this one, a heart wrenching ballad that has SPICE stamped all over it. Without a doubt this is single material and has a sensational climax.
If You Wanna Have Some Fun
At last we get the pace back up again with a bit if fiesty Spice Girl's pop funk. very similar to that of "Who Do You Think You Are?" we see the girl's revealing a little of their trade mark naughtiness with some sensationally sexy vocals from all the girls but again Mrs Beckham taking a very impressive strong lead in this one. This is one with a rap in it that sounds not unlike Madonna's Erotic, but hey it actually works and does not mar the rest of the track, like other through out, a funky bass line and up beat lyrics another contender for single material maybe?
Oxygen
Most definitely a single and is a luscious and beatifully typical Spice Girl's ballad, this is the highlight of "Forever" the girls are stunning vocally and the chorus is just possibly their finest and greatest moment to date, this definitely signals the arrival of the all new Spice Girl's, all grown up no more "Posh, Sporty, Scarey or Baby" they are now all classic elements of the earth as seen in the video for "Holler"
Goodbye
You know this one, heard it years ago! Christmas # 1 of 1998 and it is a precious reminder of how good the Spice Girl's were back then and quite obviously another ode for Ms Halliwell. It does seem quite a strange way to close the album and will lead to the inevitable question Why?

Advantages: Might appeal to non-Spice Girl fans, since its a standard R'n'B record Disadvantages: A misguided move away from everything that made them who they were

Review of Forever - Spice Girls
Advantages: The lyrical genius, slick harmonies, smashing productions and catchy melodies. Disadvantages: The lack of pop/disco songs which make the spice girls, the spice girls.
