Advantages: One of the most amazing voices ever. Disadvantages: umm.. that there isn't more?
through so we didn't realise what it was called or from but knew we loved it and have been trying to track it down since. This is a great DVD and one I should review another time!

The other DVD is called AlisonKrauss and Union Station Live and is a concert DVD. Allison Krauss has an amazing, clear voice and the band are incredible too. One of the members of Union station, Dan Tyminski, actually provided the singing voice for George Clooney's character in 'O Brother' and you can hear him sing one of the more well known songs from the movie on this DVD.
---
This is a double DVD and well worth the price because you get one disc of the actual concert and another with interviews, stills and other background material on the whole band. The concert disc is a recording of a performance in a spectacular ...
Advantages: interesting plot and characters, funny and entertaining Disadvantages: slow towards the end
If you hated your life, everything aboutit, and everyone in it, how far would you go to escape the monotony? As far as to fake amnesia?
This is what Jordan, the heroine of the novel "ForgetAboutIt", decides to do. She is sick of feeling like a stranger in her own family and having her far-less talented boss at the ad agency she works at stealing her ideas and passing them off as her own. The final straw comes when she sees her playboy boyfriend on a date with another girl - being ran over seems like a blessing in disguise as she comes to a split second decision to pretend she can't remember anyone. Only Todd, her best friend since she "married" him as a child, is in the know that Jordan is just faking her memory loss.
In a lot of ways, Jordan's "amnesia" is freeing - suddenly she can act however she likes and attribute it to ...
Advantages: Seriously talented Bluegrass performers Disadvantages: A few weak tracks
I bought this CD after catching the second hallf of this concert when it was shown on BBC4. I'd never bought, or considered listening to Bluegrass before but was so taken by it that I ordered this double CD the next morning off Amazon.
It turns out that AlisonKrauss is pretty well known in the States and gained immediate recognition for her talent with her first album "I've got that old feeling" (1990), when she was just a teenager. I'd never heard of her.
She really does have an amazing, powerful and hauntingly clear voice. In fact all my favourite tracks on this double CD are the ones that she sings. She also plays the fiddle rather well and she's nice looking - Wow, so much talent in one human being!
Her band, Union Station, are all seriously talented musicians with Dan Tyminski on guitar, mandolin and vocals, Ron Block ...

Album Notes
Personnel: Alison Krauss (vocals, fiddle, strings); Pat Bergeson (acoustic & electric guitars); Ron Block, Dan Tyminski (acoustic guitar, background vocals); Jerry Douglas (dobro, lap steel guitar); Sam Bush (mandolin, slide mandolin, background vocals); Joey Miskulin (accordion); Matt Rollings (piano); Barry Bales (acoustic & electric basses, background vocals); Viktor Krauss (acoustic bass); Jim Keltner, Kenny Malone (drums); Dolly Parton, Lyle Lovett, Evelyn Cox, Sidney Cox, Suzanne Cox (background vocals). Recorded at Emerald Sound Studios and Seventeen Grand Recording, Nashville, Tennessee. FORGET ABOUT IT was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Country Album and for Best Engineered Album, Non Classical. "Forget About It" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Alison Krauss is a genuine rarity: a bluegrass singer and fiddle player who achieved popularity without altering or commercializing her sound. On FORGET ABOUT IT, she again fuses bluegrass, country, and pop influences, covering unlikely tunes and making them sound fresh and new. Though there are very few true bluegrass tunes in this set, the bluegrass sound is here in full force. The close harmonies, Krauss' high, lonesome soprano, and the traditional-sounding dobro and fiddle are all at the heart of the sound here. The songs are mostly slow, subdued expressions of romantic melancholy and heartbreak. The musicianship is, as usual, both immaculate and inspired. Dolly Parton and Lyle Lovett show up to give harmony to the lovely closing track, "Dreaming My Dreams With You." FORGET ABOUT IT also contain some of Krauss' most memorable singing. A beautiful piece of work.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (8/19/99, p.115) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...lovely in a rueful, melancholy way, hanging together as a meditation on an aftermath that calls to mind Neil Young's masterly COMES A TIME..." Spin (10/99, p.155) - 7 out of 10 - "...Krauss' voice is a natural marvel, just about the prettiest sound that ever did grace a country album, and she can rescue nearly any lyrical banality by milking it for the high lonesome heartbreak it's concealing..." Q (9/99, p.108) - 4 stars (out of 5) - "...acoustic-based, accessible and probably timeless, filled with such soft delights....Exquisite." Entertainment Weekly (8/6/99, p.65) - "...the sweetest voice in country music....Here she delivers a set of pop weepers leavened with string-band twang....austere arrangements and those marvelous pipes redeem all." - Rating: B+ Mojo (9/99, p.96) - "...soar away beyond the custom and practice of genre, away above the muso pride and egotism of the master technicians involved....Krauss goes for complication, but gloriously so, with edgy vocal or violin harmonies which might be called high lonesome..." Down Beat (7/00, p.76) - 4.5 stars out of 5 - "...Shows more of her love for the pop side of things...this is a player's record....The moods are generally blue, but the playing and the artistry is joyful, supporting Krauss' laments with aplomb." Dirty Linen (2-3/00, p.86) - "...Krauss delivers several heart-rending performances....for anyone with a hankering for lush, moving ballads, this is good news."
