considered their definitive "best of" collection,40 Licks. Disc one focuses (with the exception ofSticky Fingers' "Wild Horses") on the golden period, from their formation in 1962 to 1970. Although not in chronological order, it includes every phase of the decade--the early covers including "Not Fade Away"; the all-conquering classics such as "Satisfaction" and "Get off My Cloud"; the often overlooked psychedelicSatanic Majestiesperiod represented here by "She's a Rainbow"; and when they really found their own sound, theLet it Bleedera with the likes of "Gimme Shelter" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash".If disc one covers the first eight years, then disc two covers the next 32--the stadium years. With an audience on a ludicrously grand scale, the Stones fell into a pattern of anthemic blues-rock, such as "Tumbling Dice", "Brown Sugar" and "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll". Next there were the odd experiments to keep up with the youngsters, such as the disco-influenced "Miss You", which, like Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", was inspired, but thankfully a one off. And so onto the bleak period, afterthestadium filler "Start Me Up", they fell on a rough patch that would last pretty much untilVoodoo Loungein the 1990s, a fantastic return to form, with several more songs that could have been worthy for this "best of" but were sadly not chosen in favour of "Love is Strong" and "You Got Me Rocking". Including four new songs produced by Don Was who did their last two albums, this really is the full story-so-far covering 40 years of the world's most famous rock&roll band. --David Trueman

Advantages: The Stones at their best Disadvantages: The Stones past their best
Fourty years, is it really that long, well I don’t know but I do know that where music is concerned time stands still for me. Do you not think that everyone has an era where music is the essence of life its self, do you understand?
Let me, not as they need any introduction of course, introduce you to the Rolling Stones and they’re latest offering on CD in this instance, take a bow “Forty Licks”. This is a double CD featuring perhaps some of their ... ...to date with four totally new tracks. Due to the amount of material I am not going to review every track but just pick what in my opinion are the best. I will however list all of them with the release dates.

1. Street Fighting Man. 1968
2. Gimme Shelter. 1969
3. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. 1965 For me this is the best track on either CD. It epitomises all that was great by the Stones. Listen to Jagger front this one, its pure ...

Advantages: Disc 1 Disadvantages: Disc 2
...a reality TV show for forty years. This album is a compilation of forty of the Stones hits over forty years, I bought this for $12(Canadian) in Calgary. The CD has the Rolling Stones symbol of the big lips, in bright multicoloured glory. The insert has various pictures of the band in their heyday and a short narrative from someone on how great the Stones are. With forty songs to review I will have to be brief to keep this op as short as possible.
... ...are a great band, but forty of the best tracks in one compilation is a little overkill. No band can produce more than twenty very good tracks and this CD proves this theory. If you want the essential Stones tracks then this is for you. I bought this album in Canada and it was a great comfort on a road between Calgary and Vancouver.
Thanks for Reading

Advantages: The very best of Rolling Stones all in two CDs Disadvantages: They could never do it again this day and age
If you dont feel like you have to buy every individual album of the Rolling Stones, just because your a "fan" or if you have them all anyway, but would just rather like a copy of their classics for when your in the mood. Id say "Forty Licks" covers pretty much all of their greatest work, from their post 60's/70's fame.
The "Forty Licks" album includes a 24-page color booklet with notes from David Wild. The songs on this disc are as follows:
DISC ... ...2. Gimme Shelter 3. Satisfaction, (I Can't Get No) 4. Last Time, The 5. Jumping Jack Flash 6. You Can't Always Get What You Want 7. 19th Nervous Breakdown 8. Under My Thumb 9.
