Advantages: good catchy riffs and emo sounds Disadvantages: not the heavy sound some fans will expect
I recently picked up up fragile future as i have listened and followed the previos two albums of hawthorne heights. This it their first album without band member Casey Calvert who sadly died and was best know for his emo styled screaming within songs for the band giving them a very distinctive sound. This screamo sound gave them a very edgy sound and in my opinion were a leading sound in the genre, sadly the tragedy leads to this album having a much ... ...punk genre.
This more generic pop punk does not take away from the talent of the band who still have produced a good album with certain good songs. The song rescue me which is the first single of the album has a very solid sound with good guitar riffs and typical emo style vocals which make it very listenable to people of my generation, the songs 231 and desperation follow this pattern well . I recently picked up up fragile future as i have listened and followed the previos two albums of hawthorne heights. This it their first album without band member Casey Calvert who sadly died and was best know for his emo styled screaming within songs for the band giving them a very distinctive sound. This screamo sound gave them a very edgy sound and in my opinion were a leading sound in the genre, sadly the tragedy leads to this album having a much more relaxed sound and fits in to the saturated pop punk genre.
Anouther point of interest about this album is that lyrics are filled with sadness due to the bands loss and this gives the album a certain edge over other similar style bands sych as bayside and silverstein. This is empasised with slower songs and heartfilled piano tunes shown in the start and finsh of the album with the buisness of paper stars and the end song of come back home(reprive) which is a new take on an old song to reflect the change the band has gone through.
The emo style quartet may not pack the punch and beefy guitar riffs that they use to but this album is a fitting follow up given the situation they are now in and i think that for pop/punk fans it is definatly worth a listen. The album itself my not be a masterpiece however it still shows the talent of hawthorne heights.

Album Notes
Hawthorne Heights: Matt Ridenour, Eron Bucciarelli, Micah Carli, JT Woodruff. Audio Mixer: Jeff Schneeweis. Recording information: Hype Dance Studio, Chico, CA. Dayton, Ohio's Hawthorne Heights have had a tumultuous history. They experienced a huge success straight out of the gate with their first album,THE SILENCE IN BLACK & WHITE, but after the release of their second, they suffered the loss of guitarist/vocalist Casey Calvert, who died at the age of 26. Soldiering on in the wake of that tragedy, their tellingly titled third album, FRAGILE FUTURE, finds the band progressing but still holding on to their core musical values. While it's hard not to read some of the band's personal travails into lyrics about "all the friends that you have lost" ("The Business of Paper Stars"), the absence of Calvert affects the band sonically as well; without his occasional roaring vocal interjections between JT Woodruff's highly melodic vocals, the screamo element is removed from the band's emo sound. If anything, the softer and harder sides of their approach meet in the middle more than ever before, offering a more balanced feel instead of segregating the quiet songs from the rockers. Nevertheless, the band continues to fuse rock, punk, pop, and emo, displaying unbridled energy and an undeniable sense of purpose as they move ahead into their FRAGILE FUTURE.
