After finding a copy of A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers in a nearby bookshop and being told it was a good read by others I decided to buy it, and then I discovered I'd left my wallet in my other coat.
A few months later after forgetting to come back to that bookshop and buying that book I discovered 20 Fragments of a Ravenous Youth in my local library, naturally I picked it up so I could finally see how good of an author Xiaolu Guo was and see whether or not I should go look for the other books she has written.
I can tell you now that I am planning on looking for a copy of her other works, she's brilliant.

Advantages: How to make any soup tasty, so easily. Disadvantages: All recipes you have to play by ear, no set amount of ingredients.
Soups are my favourite meals, whether it's from a can or home made. But I do love making soup so I'd like to share my theory on how to make soup the best tasting, healthiest and often cheapest meal.
I've learnt over several years the trick to making great soup. Generally this means to me 1) thick and hearty 2) simple and quick 3) healthy, and 4) delicious!
1) To make a soup thick I would never use flour. This isn't a common ingredient in soup although I have noticed people may recommend it. The best way to thicken soup is to be very careful about the amount of water compared to vegetables. Which ever vegetables you use, fry slightly in a saucepan first, then top up with water or stock to about 1 centimeter below top of the vegetables. I recently returned to Weight Watchers to help try and shift some of my post-baby weight, my baby is now 18 months and I think it is about time I regained some sort of healthy body shape. I have tried Weight Watchers before and found it to be a useful way to control my eating and therefore lead to weight loss. I find the Weight Watchers points system a good way for me to keep track of my eating and I like the idea of having free foods that will help keep me satisfied but will not count towards my daily food allowance. I had previously made the ?free soups? and found these to be tasty and filling so I was pleased to see that there were still some recipes for free soups in the new programme.
