It’s about half-way through that you finally realise this is definitely a different album to their previous ones. The usually tranquil group swap their heart-felt ballads for up-beat feel-good tempos that, just like their other sound, manage to stick in your mind. It’s hard to pick a favourite track, although the most popular will probably have to be Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day, and the song recently used on a car advert World Looking In. Shallow End and Be Yourself are singles just waiting to happen and the cheerful anthems that dominate the rest of the album are of equal quality to previous tracks. Morcheeba are unquestionably progressing, mixing their talent with new ideas and managing to pull off great songs. If the next album can hit just somewhere between Fragments of Freedom and Big Calm, it may just be the greatest album for any fan to own.
