The group were unable to capitalise on the enthusiasm of the press as the Ze label lacke dthe funds to finance a UK tour. Despite the record’s wit and verve, it flopped; the appeal of Darnell’s polished satirical updating of Hollywood high camp appeared to be limited to a cult following.

Kid Creole and the Coconuts were unique and the album is splendid - it never got the success it deserved.
