The name Front Parlour Ballads conjures up images of teatime, family and wholesome entertainment and there are obviously images from his past in abundance.
Songs like Old Thames Side, When We Were Boys At School and Boys Of Mutton Street seem to be narratives of a past which, if not haunts him, influences him greatly.
I think it's what appear to be the simplest lyrics, which are in fact the cleverest.
And there is a track here (don't ... ...it will be near the front of your CD collection, ipod playlist or vinyl rack long after others have found their way to a future car boot sale (the final resting place of many a 'next best thing'.)
