Frozen In Time - Obituary

...As far as Death Metal as a genre goes, Obituary are one of the greats, and as far as Obituary goes, Cause of Death is one of thier best CDs, if not thier best. I have listened, at great length, to Obituary's entire discography, and although it is very hard to fault any of thier work, it is equally hard to pick a favourite track or album out of so many classics. But the reason I believe this fits the bill is because each and every song is as powerful as the last. The vocals come across excellently, good, pure, harsh, deep gutterals which fit in against the backdrop of the beefy guitars and skilled drumming. As this is a review and not a history lesson, I don't feel the need to talk about individuals in the band or thier past releases to any great extent, but suffice to say, if you are a Obituary fan or a fan of old school Death metal... Advantages: Nostalgic, charming and catchy.
Disadvantages: Not too much variety

...branded across its heart. None of the songs rock out in the slightest way, not in comparison to anything else around at the time. They are instead sneaky little things, creeping into your mind and under your rugs until you find yourself humming them without realising. However, they're sneaky in another way, too. Maybe it's just my depressing take on things, but read between the lines of Mr E's simple but perfectly atmospheric lyrics, past the happy, twittering birds, and there's a darker side. Let's face it, there always is with the Eels. I bought this album whilst on a long tour of the western USA and it took this to make me realise just how succinctly and perfectly E has summed up American society, albeit in a nostalgic way. Coping with life is the main theme of this album. Along the way, E meets a few people and looses most of them... Read review

Advantages: The best album to date, really does rock
Disadvantages: No Major Niggles

...in the albums style and sound before it gets to boring and it is a brilliant song, its like a mutation of some of the later tracks on Infest (Snakes, Binge etc) and has a much more angrier tone to it then some of the previous songs on the album but is still somewhat meaningful as Jacoby sings "hold on to your dreams, cause your nightmares might seem like there your reality", this really is an ace sound and a brilliant song. Even more like some of there earlier material is track nine Tyranny Of Normality which has a sound like the previous song (maybe slightly heavier) which gives the band a chance to attack the disgusting state of society and makes you think as the front man sings "It's the death of outrage, the obituaries on the front page, it's the death of outrage, I mourn the death of outrage the obituaries on the front page" before jumping...
