Pink - Funhouse
After attending Pink's concert last year I was excited about her new album coming out and I wasn't disappointed. I am going to rate each track out of 5. So here goes:
1. So What (3.35) 5/5
A great song to open up the album with. It is a very catchy upbeat song which will guarantee you to be singing the chorus 'So What I'm still a rock star!' included with jumping up and down with your hands in the air to the beat. It will put you in a good mood, as it is very upbeat. The chorus has the electric guitar playing to give it that edge which Pink is famous for. The song opens with nanana na na na na kind of child like and the guitar is playing is the same which really gets your attention. It is about Pink losing her husband but she doesn't care as she doesn't want him and it doesn't matter, as she is a rock star. I love the way Pink makes fun of herself and doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks. It is a great song if you have split up with someone as it looks on the good side of things.
2. Sober (4.11) 4/5
This track is slower paced giving a more serious tone. I love the background music which is the guitar playing which is very relaxing to listen to. Pink gets to show off her voice in this song. It has a desperate tone to the song and you feel that you can feel her pain. The orchestra is playing at the end in the background is a nice touch ad makes it seem intense. The track is about partying and drinking too much and that drink isn't making her happy she feels that once she sobers up she doesn't happy anymore. When she is drink nothing can touch her though she feels like the party is over. Once she sobers up she feels lost.
3. I don't Believe You (4.36) 4/5
An even slower song, which doesn't have much background
music, which really sets off, Pinks voice. You can only hear the piano playing softly and the orchestra playing. It's a very relaxing song to chill out to but you can't help yourself from singing along. It has a dreamy feel to it. The song is about Pink being in a bad relationship, which they are fighting a lot. She is trying to kid herself that he still wants her even though he is telling her not to come around. I think this song shows that Pink has a vulnerable side to her, which everyone has. She is trying to convince herself in anyway that she can that he still cares saying 'the passions there, so its gotta be right, right?'
4. One Foot Wrong (3.24) 4/5
Another song, which is slower, but it has a jazzier vibe to it with trumpets playing and the orchestra making it slightly edgy. It is about her being very depressed and desperate as she feels like if she has one foot wrong she is going to fall. She needs a friend as she feels like she is in the dark.
5. Please Don't Leave Me (3.51) 5/5
There is a lighter feel to this song with a breezy beat to it. The words really contradict the music behind the song. There is a great guitar beat at the start, which makes you to tap your feet. The song is about her not knowing how she becomes so obnoxious and what it is about him that makes her act like this. It is obviously about how two people are fighting with each other, which seems to be a habit. She loves him even though they fight and doesn't want him to leave her. The chorus is very catchy and will catch your attention. The words of the song contradict itself a lot throughout showing how complicated women are lol! I think a lot of people can relate to this song if they ever have been in a bad relationship, which has gone on for too long.
6. Bad Influence (3.36) 4/5
A light fun loving song, which will get you up and dancing. It is a rather flirty song with Pink being a bad influence on people. It is about partying and having fun. The song has a fast paced beat, which can be head easily with a computerized vibe to it in some places.
7. Funhouse (3.24) 4/5
This is a rather edgy song, which always makes me picture bad evil clowns in a house. It is a song, which is fast paced with a computerised vibe and Pink sings quiet high pitched which makes you think something evil or bad is going to happen. It is about her house and it used to be full of good memories which it was a funhouse however now it just haunts her and it full of bad memories so she is going to burn it down as it doesn't feel like her home anymore.
8. Crystal Ball (3.26) 3/5
This song is slow paved and has a dreamy feel to it with the acoustic guitar playing in the background. It is a song, which you can relax to. The song is Pink reflecting about her life and what love has done to her however she doesn't regret anything even though a man has hurt her. By this song you ca can see that her breakup with her husband has played a big part in this album.
9. Mean (4.17) 3/5
We see a more rock side now with the electric guitar playing and piano and drums playing. It is a slower song, which you will sing along to as it is catchy and you start to feel sorry for Pink. It is about how good her relationship used to be and she wonders how it got so bad and how did they become so mean. She asks herself do they stay together because they are afraid to be alone and because they have got used to the abuse.
10. It's All Your Fault (3.52) 5/5
It starts all dreamy like she is in a dream and then it gets to the chorus and it takes a turn to be edgy and rock like when she blames him as he called her beautiful. The song is about her wanting to leave but then she realises how he is so perfect and it's his fault she feels like this. She wants him to come back but he doesn't so she wants him to feel as bad as her. This song is very catchy.
11. Ave Mary A (3.15) 3/5
Another edgy song with Pink asking what is going on in the world and that she needs someone to help her to get rid of her demons. It is a typical Pink song but on of the weaker songs on the album. I feel that is an album filler as it is not catchy or different from any of her other songs.
12. Glitter In the Air (3.48) 3/5
Everything is slowed down again for this song with only the piano playing in the background so you can hear Pink's great vocals again as she shows off her voice in this song. It is a relaxing song, which is easy listening. It is about Pink reflecting on a time when she was very happy and wished a night didn't end. She tells about a time she had found that type of happiness. It is a song, which is rather reflective and makes you think about yourself and your happiness.
13. This Is How It Goes Down featuring Travis McCoy (3.19) 4/5
This is a fast paced song with a rock vibe to it, which will get you up to dance. The chorus is very catchy and always gets me up shouting along, if you are like me you probably wont learn any of the other words as they are mostly rapped and talked throughout the song. Travis McCoy sings by himself in the middle of the song. It is about Pink's husband cheating on he. She has found out and is telling him how it goes down and exactly what she thinks of him. That is that he is nothing but an extra and she is the star and basically he is going to regret it and miss her.
**OVERALL**
I give this album 5/5 even if there are a few weak songs. Nearly every song you could listen to over and over again. The album seems to get better every time I listen to it. I think Pink has even topped her last album, which I didn't think could be done. It really is a great CD and I am glad that I bought it I really wasn't disappointed. I was that impressed I am going to see her in concert!
