========= Pink - Funhouse CD ===============
Back in around mid October I was chatting to a friend from this site and she told me that the pop/rock singer Pink had released a new album called Funhouse. My friend was highly into Pink's music but it had never appealed to me much before. Like most artists on their albums there are always one or two tracks to be liked by everyone. For me on Pink's last album, " I'm Not Dead " which was released back in 2006, my favorite song was " Who Knew " and there weren't many more I took to.
When I started to get more into music, I listened more to Pink's previous album and what a wise choice I made. I began to learn that my friend was one hundred percent correct that Pink was one of the greatest female rock singers of all time. I really started to enjoy listening to Pink's music and then my friend informs me that she has released another album. Not long after, I downloaded the album from iTunes, and boy was I gob smacked by how fantastic the tracks , the lyrics and the singing really was!
Who Is Pink?
Well if you have never heard of Pink then you haven't heard the most amazing female rock singer of all time. Pink or P!nk as her name appears is an American singer who has won not one but two Grammy awards. Her real name is Alecia Beth Moore, and she has also performed as an actress, although personally I prefer her singing. Pink has released five album's since her debut in the year 2000. I definitely think that her most recent, Funhouse which this review is all about is the best by far!
Tracks
On this album, there are twelve fantastic for you to listen to when you purchase the album. Each track has been written by Pink and other songwriters such as Max Martin and Butch Walker.
Track One - So What
This track was the first one to wow me on this album. Ever since I had heard it on a music channel and saw it's video I knew it was going to be a success, despite it being number one in the charts for many weeks. The song is also so addictive. I found it addictive also when I heard first heard it , no wonder it won an award for Most Addictive Track of the year this year because I find myself and others singing this track over and over again.
The song starts of with the guitar playing with a really catchy tune to it. Pink then comes in with her imitation of the instrument with her " Na Na Na's " which I find are one of the most addictive parts of the song ( You'll see what I mean ). I found this song really quite fast instead of a slow emotional track. Of course once again it is addictive because of the pace it goes at, for example I wouldn't find myself repeatedly singing " I Don't Believe You " another track on the album over and over again but this one I always do.
The most memorable lyrics to me are -
" So so what I'm still a rock star I've got my rock moves And I don't need you "
The story behind the song obviously shows that Pink has left a man she had been with because she doesn't need him because she is a rock star and she can do whatever the heck she wants to do. I think Pink is speaking for all the rock stars out there and showing fans how their life's are so laid back and get to do whatever they choose, like Nickleback's song " Rock star " did but I prefer this song as it isn't just about rock star life, it's about relationships and being in the shoes of a rock star.
Overall , this track get's a big juicy 10/10. The lyrics are straight forward but they seem better in this song than other lyrics that may put you to a halt and think what they mean for a second. It is a great track enjoyed by everyone I know and everyone enjoys singing to this ear delight. The instruments such as the guitar and drums are great in this track but of course Pink's voice overpowers the lot of them which is another impressive aspect of the song and Pink herself.
Track 2 - Sober
This is another fantastic track that I heard somewhere else but never knew it would be released on this album. I am sure I heard it on the radio or seen it on a music channel but I'm not too sure but anyway you still get to listen to it on this amazing album.
The song starts of with some soft guitar music, and then shortly after, Pink's great singing comes into the scene, and at the end some violins play. It is a much slower track than this first " So What " and a little calmer. The lyrics are fantastic in this song and the riffs played throughout really suit the song ( sometimes the backing music does not always fit in with the lyrics in some artists work ). This song may be a little slower but Pink's voice still shows it's strength in this song.
The song to me is about Pink's partner who isn't really bothered about her at a party they are at. Pink feels that she doesn't want to be waking up next to him after her partner had been flirting with people at the party. Pink feels that she needs to get drink so it doesn't hurt her too much and that is why it is called " Sober ". That is my view but I am sure you will all have different views on the song.
The most memorable lyrics to me are -
" I'm Safe Up High Nothing Can Touch Me Why Do I Feel This Party's Over No Pain Inside Your Like Perfection "
These are definitely lyrics that you really have to think about but I am sure Pink and Co had no problem writing this song if it came from what she has felt before, although she might never have experienced it before but she can still write the song so easily because she is that amazing!
This song get's an overall 9/10. The lyrics are fantastic and so is the backing music and the music doesn't take over Pink's voice at any point, although I do find that Pink's voice sounded a bit different to the likes of
" So What " as her voice sounds a bit strained but that's just my opinion. It is a fantastic and memorable song though so I would definitely recommend you listen to it, this one is the one that has been the most successful after " So What ". Excellent.
Track 3 - I Don't Believe You
Wow what can I say , maybe I was wrong about Pink's voice in " Sober " as I notice she sounds even more different in this song! Her voice is so sweeter in this song I find and there is not much power needed in this song. I don't think I had heard this song before but I am so glad that this song is on the album because it is one of my favorites on the disc.
The song starts very quietly with the guitar playing in the background and Pink's voice makes it's way and calmly sings the lyrics that amaze me. It is a song that is easier to understand other than " Sober " but the lyrics are so effective. Lyrics such as " Passion " and many others really emphasize Pink's love for her partner which is extremely effective to me.
The song is actually about Pink's partner who has been cheating on her and he denies it but he is lying and Pink hates the fact that he had been cheating on her and like it is a nightmare which you can't wake up from in my opinion. It is so different from " So What " as in that song Pink seems to not care about her partner and she is just a rock star getting on with her life, but in this song her true feelings are shown which gives a very contrasting thought and very effectivly I must say.
My most memorable lyrics in this song are -
" It's Like The Way We Fight The Times I've Cried We Come To Blows And Every Night The Passions There So It's Got To Be Right , Right? No I Don't Believe You When You Say I Can't Come Round Here No More I Won't Remind You You Said We Wouldn't Be Apart "
These lyrics are very emotional in my eyes but they go together to fix up a fantastic ballad. It depends what mood I am in if I am listening to these ballads but while I am writing up my reviews and I am in a calm way then I listen to songs like this , or this itself!
Overall this song receives a 10/10. I can't find any fault in this song and it feels so relaxing to listen to which is another quality that Pink has ( relaxing us that is). You wouldn't believe that it is a relaxing song until you listen to it because of the likes of "So What" and songs from Pink's previous albums being so strong and heavy rocky style. The acoustic guitar playing in this is very calm also. Pink can play the guitar so I wouldn't be surprised if she accompanies herself in this beautiful track. An excellent one to recommend.
Track 4 - One Foot Wrong
Well luckily I have never heard this track before because it is an absolute offense to Pink's other song's on this album. This is definitely the worst song I have ever heard from any Pink album. T the start guitars play which seem to be all over the place and then Pink's voice comes into it which just doesn't sound right. The lyrics are very bland and the song goes straight into the chorus not long after. The song has no power and just seems very boring and doesn't have a feel of major or minor key just plain old boring.
If I had to choose the most memorable lyric in this song it would be -
" One Foot Wrong I'm Gonna Fall "
I know there is just one line but that's as much as I can put for " Memorable Lyrics ". I am not sure what this song is meant to be about but I assume it's about if Pink does one more thing wrong then she will be put away or thrown out or wherever she is in this song ( It's hard to tell to be honest ).
Overall this song receives a very disappointing 2/10. I suppose there has to be at least two stars because at the end of the day it is Pink, but the day she recorded this she must have had a headache because it is plain dire! I would not recommend that you listen to this track at all!
Track 5 - Please Don't Leave Me
I was sure I had heard this song before but I don't think I have in the end. Anyway, the song starts off with Pink doing her " Da Da Da Da's " Which I thought was c little bit of a copycat towards the start of " So What " but it is completely different. The song is powerful but not as much as " So What ". The guitars in the background are played very well and sound very fresh if that makes sense.
The Da Da Da's are repeated throughout the song which are used when there is a gap between lyrics which is actually quite clever I thought. The lyrics are fantastic in this song and are sang brilliantly by the queen of rock herself. Pink's voice is different once again in this song and her voice is much better than " One Foot Wrong " thank goodness.
The most memorable lyrics in this song to me are -
" Please Don't Leave Me Please Don't Leave Me I Always Say How I Don't Need You But It's Always Gonna Come Right Back To This Please Don't Leave Me "
This is the softer part of the song , being the chorus. The rest of the song I like Pink telling herself that she has been so horrible and she is a bad person for what she has done, whereas the chorus seems like it is telling Pink's partner instead of her talking to herself like the rest of the song.
Overall this song receives a very good 8/10. I really enjoyed listening to this song, and it sounds stupid but it is one of those track that are there for you in the morning to wake you up, it sounds stupid but you may see what I mean. The instruments once again are fantastic in this song and Pink's voice is excellent. No part of the song is dreadful to the ears which is good unlike " One Foot Wrong ". It has a rating of 8/10 because I find it get's boring after a while and isn't as good as " I Don't Believe You " Or " So What ". I did enjoy this track and I would recommend that you listen to it ( Just not over and over again though or else you will get bored of it I assure you ).
Track 6 - Bad Influence
This song starts of with a strange clattering sort of sound and I was totally confused and thought my player had broken when I heard it. It was however the song which went straight to the " La La La La's " which I sort of expected after such a weird start of the song. Not a great way to start the mid track of the album at all in my opinion.
The song is very fast and I found that the backing music is very bland for this song. I can hardly hear much of it which isn't a good thing, and truthfully this song reminded me of one of those songs sang in musicals. I find Pink's voice is a bit boring in this song and goes a little low in places. This song get's extremely boring when you listening to it and it seems to long to listen to and not get bored.
The Most Memorable lyrics in this song to me are -
"I'm the instigator of underwear Showing up here and there oh no I'm always on a mission from the get go So what if it's only 1 o'clock in the afternoon It's never too soon to send out all the invitations to the last night "
The lyrics in this song are probably the best part of the song to be honest. They are very well thought out but they do seem a bit strange at time. I am very confused in what to say with this song because in one mind I think it is good whereas in another mind I think it is very childish and I agree that it is quite childish in my mind.
Overall this song get's a 4/10. It seems quite a hard song to sing but the rest of it isn't very impressive at all. I was very dissapointed with this song as by the name I thought it would be a good song to listening to without getting bored but obviously I was wrong. I would not recomend you to listen to this song at all, but if you are in the mood for something funny then give it a listening to because it can be funny in parts.
Track 7 - Funhouse
This next track has to be one of my most favourite tracks on the album's. This song is about Pink and how she sees life as a big carnival or fun fair. This is the title track for the album which pictures Pink on the front " Having Fun ". Pink also mentions how bad life can be but she tries to have as much fun as possible. Not many people like this track but I think it is really entertaining.
The instruments are great in the track and guitars come in at the start and sound really fantastic. The lyrics really fit in well with the instruments in the background. Pink's voice is in a more higher pitch than other tracks which makes it a bit more enjoyale as it is more of a cheerful song than a sad or boring one.
The lyrics are also fantastic and well thought out athough when Pink's voice seems as if it is being put through one of those machines that make your voice sound electric, I don't think they should have produced the song like that and put the F word in it as it ruins that area but the rest of the song is just fantastic.
The most memorable lyrics are -
" This used to be a funhouse But now it's full of evil clowns It's time to start the final countdown I'm going burn it down "
These lyrics show a bit of a down side in Pink's life although she sings it as if it is a good thing. This song is packed full of effectives and what have you and it never get's boring for me.
Overall this song get's a 10/10 for it's greatness. There is nothing expet that one area I can complain about as I really love this song and I feel it is a great one to listen to when you are travelling. It is a happy sounding song and is so different from the rest of Pink's all time songs. I would definitely recomend this one!
Track 8 - Crystal Ball
I heard this song was meant to be a really good one although unfortunetly I can not agree. This song is about Pink'sdivorce which isn't very nice for her but I found the song quite boring.
The lyrics are very good although they are repeated a little too much I think. It is meant to have that relaxing effect but I just don't feel it like I did in the wonderful balld of " I Don't Believe You ". Pink's voice is much calmer and this song is also much slower which is apprpriate for this song but i just didn't enjoy it so much which is ashame.
The most memorable lyrics are -
" Pennies in a well A million dollars in the fountain of a hotel Fortune teller that says maybe you will go to hell But I'm not scared at all The cracks in the crystal The cracks in the crystal ball "
Overall this song get's a 6/10. This sounds stupid but this song reminds me a bit of modern country music. Silly but it has that effect in it. The lyrics are ok as I have said and Pink really does get the message over all though I don't think it is a great ballad or a Pink classic. Not bad, I suppose I would recomend as a more relaxingish track.
Track 9 - Mean
Whoaa...
When this track started I knew it was going to be a great one! It started of really loudly with the guitar playing and the pano also playing a tiny part at the start using a glissando. This song is one that I would assume to be at the end as it seems to be that sort of track.
The lyrics in this song are very straightforward with a few similes in the song which is very effective. Pink's voice seems to have been taken over by the instruments in parts of the song although her voice sounds like it did in "So What".
This song has a really country like feel to it as well as the last track. I personally fin this song very powerful but not one I would hear on the charts as I don't see it matching up to the quality of " So What" or " Sober ".
The Most Memorable lyrics are -
" You used to hold the door for me Now you can't wait to leave You used to send me flowers if you f****d up in my dreams I used to make you laugh with all the silly s**t I did But now you roll your eyes and walk away And shake your head "
Do excuse the language in the song.
Overall this song receives a 7/10. The song is very powerful ad the lyrics and instruments and Pink'svoice are very good , although I don't feel it will ever be as successful as some other of Pink's songs. Not a bad track but not the greatest ad there arw a few faults I have mentioned and just doesn't have that chart potential in my eyes. It's ok and I suppose it could be recomended.
Track 10 - It's all your fault
This song is absoltely awful in terms of Pink and her lyrics. I could hardly understand what she was saying and I really didn't enjoy listening to her voice in this one, sorry Pink!
This track however did amaze me in terms of intstruments in the background. The guitars were fantastic and so were the synthesizer effects that went with them. I was absolutley amazed by these although it is about the singing with Pink in my opinion.
The most memorable lyrics in this track are -
It's all your fault, You called me beautiful You turned me out And I can't turn back"
Overall This song get's a 5/10. The instruments are amazing in this track but it is about the singing and it just didnt impress me at all. Pink's vocals were just not fantastic so sorry but a 5/10 from me sorry! Not recomended for anyone to be honest.
Track 11 - Ave Mary A
The name of the song seems very strange but it is not a bad song at all. This song starts off with a sad sounding sort of beat which is very different and strange. The lyrics are very good in this track and so is Pink's voice.
The instuments used in this track are also very good and really work well with the lyrics. It is definitely a different track and to be honest I could never hear it being a number one but it is different and well thought out.
Overall, this song receives a 8/10. I am not writing much about the last two as I am not in the right function to write long paragraphs at this time but hey. This song is great all around , the lyrics, Pink's voice and the instrumental is good also. I would recomend you listen to it for sure!
Track 12 - Glitter In The Air
This is the last song on the album I bought although there are some different end songs on other albums in other countries. This song is a ballad and Pink makes an exllent job of it. The lyrics are great and Pink's voice is good to.
The song starts with some soft piano music and once again it is calmer( being a balad). It hads a more country like feel to it which I is ok but Pink is much better at Pop and Rock than ballads in my eyes all though they are still good. The song seems sad at first but it is quiet a relaxing song with the intruments in the background...
The most memorable lyrics are -
" ave you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone, You're whole life waiting on the ring to prove you're not alone, Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry? Have you even invited a stranger to come inside?"
Overall this song get's 6/10. It is an ok ballad but sounds like something they would sing on the X Factor. It is a bit like a calm after the storm and it really isn't a bad song to end the album on. The instrments are good and so are the vocals so I definitely recomend it.
My Opinion On
Pink's Vocal's
In my honest opinion, I think that Pink's voice is one of the best I have ever heard. She has a really distinctive voice which is fairly important in my opinion when you are a singer. The distinction of Pink's voice is so special as it get's people saying things such as " There's Pink with a new fantastic song ". She is recognized straight away by her voice, and of course most people I know are always amazed by Pink's vocals.
I am one to think Pink's voice is terrific and for once I am right , anyone agree? Pink also has a strong voice which get's her through her voice, but she can also sing slowly, or speedily. For example " So What " is a fairly fast track which Pink sings excellently due to her voice being able to follow lyrics quickly, and in other tracks such as " Sober " which is a quieter and slower song, Pink still sings excellently even though it is much slower than " So What ". There's nothing I can fault in Pink's voice and i just hope she picks up more fan's in her live tour and amazes more people with her voice in her 2009 Funhouse tour.
The Album Overall
The album overall is absolutely fantastic. I found many of the tracks to have great potential and a really good feel to them although there were a couple I didn't think much to although I would definitely recomend that you go out anf buy this album as you will be really please with it. There are so many ways Pink can sing in and we get to see them in this album which is very impressive and so are the instruments used inside the album, fantastic!
Price/ Cover Of The Album And Why Buy This Album
I got the album from iTunes for around £10, although after a few months after it's release in October, it is a pound or two cheaper, but when I bought the album it was worth every single penny. Of course there are always a few tracks which aren't as good as other's on an album, but overall this album was one of the greatest I had ever purchased. The album was sold all over the world and must have sold at least a million copies. The album cover features Pink riding on a horse from a merry go round which obviously shows her laid back , and fun packed life as that is what she sees it as. The album cover is very effective as it gives you a little image of what Pink's life is and that the album is definitely fun! Pink has put a lot of effort into this extremely successful album so she has got a lot out of it. I am sure Pink enjoyed singing and writing the tracks on this album as much as I enjoyed listening to it. You should most definitely think about buying this album as it really makes Pop/Rock music look like the best genre of music of all time. Pink is such a passionate singer which is also important, and you will feel the passion while listening to the tracks on this album, they are fantastic. You may find yourself liking this kind of music if you do not already, because Pink has that advantage to change everyone's opinion about Pop/Rock music, amazing!
In my final opinion, I honestly think that this is one of the best albums I have EVER came across listening to in my entire life. I find the album so much more impressive than Pink's previous album's overall, and this time the most catchy tune of the year breaks in, being " So What ". I am sure Pink is going to have an even brighter future, but I certainly think if Pink retired from singing right now, that this album would be the biggest success in her life and one heck of a memory to look back to, so why not contribute to buying another copy and enjoying every minute of another amazing album from the great artist of Pink, although if you didn't enjoy it then " so what she's still a rock star , she's got her rock moves and she don't need you " because she already has a massive fun base, but seriously get out or get onto iTunes or Amazon or wherever you buy from and look out for this album because you will not regret buying it , that is a promise!
Thank you for reading...
