I've been a fan of Pink ever since she first came onto the music scene. From her first album Can't Take Me Home, up until her latest one Funhouse. She's always had catchy songs that you find yourself singing and can't get out of your head.
*SO WHO IS PINK?*
Pink is a 29 year old female vocalist and songwriter from Philadephia, USA. She is known worldwide, and has won many awards for her music and I would assume will go onto win many more as well. Her genre ranges from rock to pop, ranging from songs being catchy and upbeat, to some powerful ballads and slow soft love songs. She first came about with her album 'Can't Take Me Home', and since her song from that album 'There You Go', she has become more and more successful. She sort of has the 'I don't care attitude' and she stands up to what she believes in.
Whenever i've watched her on television or read interviews in magazines, she always seems very down to earth and always up for a laugh, which you can tell in some of her songs, they're very tongue in cheek.
She is very unique in a female vocalist sort of sense, she has quite a husky/scratchy voice, and can hit alot of the high notes.
*FUNHOUSE*
So Funhouse, her fifth album to be realeased up to yet, hopefully there will be more to come. Personally, having all the other Pink albums, I would say this is my favourite of them all, there is not one song I dislike, i've listened to the album so many times since I got it for Christmas, whether it's on my CD player, in the car or on my MP4 player, I haven't tired of it. The booklet in that comes with the CD has all the lyrics to the songs in, which is a nice touch, so while your sitting listening to the album for the first couple of times, you can sing along and get them stuck into your head quicker.
So the songs, first of all i'd like to say that when i desribe the meaning of the songs, I am describing what the song portrays to me, in know way am I saying that this is the proper meaning of the song, as people portray different meanings altogether....
1. SO WHAT I would be surprised if somebody hasn't heard this song playing somewhere, as it's been played and played and played everywhere I go, shopping centres, music channels, radio, clubs/pubs etc. It's a very catchy upbeat sort of song, with the catchiest chorus ever, which i bet you've found yourself singing at some point. It's basically a song about her split from her ex husband, you'd think she was down about it and getting her own back, but watching her on an interview she says they've stayed the best of friends, and if you watch the video, her ex husband is in it, therefore like I said earlier, her lyrics
can be very tongue in cheek.
Personal favourite lyrics: I guess I just lost my Husband I don't know where he went So i'm gonna drink my money I'm not gonna pay his rent.
Overplayed in a good way, catchy, upbeat 10/10.
2. SOBER The second song released from this album. It's a slow rock type of song, witch very touching lyrics. You can really feel with this song that Pink is singing straight from the heart, it's very honest and warm, and sort of gets you thinking. The song is all about personal experience. The song portrays lonliness and losing someone, which again I think refers to her ex husband. Once again it's very catchy, but not in the upbeat sort of way. It's a good song to reflect on, with Pinks superb vocals and once again catchy chrous.
Personal favourite lyrics: I don't wanna be the girl who has to fill the silence The quiet scares me cos it screams the truth Please don't tell me that we had that conversation I won't remember save your breath cos what's the use?
Slow, meaningful, honest song 9/10
3. I DON'T BELIEVE YOU This is another slow song, slightly slow rock again. Pink is on her usual form singing soft and quite husky, which I always love to hear as it sounds so lovely and gentle. This song is about being let down and losing someone you love and not wanting to lose them or let go. The lyrics Pink is singing give you a sense of she's trying her best to keep that loved one, but the loved one doesn't want to know. I would assume that this song is very much about her ex husband and their faded romance. Once again a lovely song to reflect on, with really touching lyrics.
Personal favourite lyrics: It's like one of those bad dreams when you can't wake up Looks like you've given up you've had enough But I want more, no I won't stop cos I just know you'll come around..right?
Touching, gentle song 10/10
4. ONE FOOT WRONG This song is slightly rocky type but not heavy rock, it's abit louder/faster than the previous two slow ones, but still not poppy/upbeat. I'd say out of them all this is my least favourite song. although I still do like it. I don't fully understand the meaning of this song, I think its about being let down and being alone, but unlike the other songs the meaning isn't obvious, so I guess it's left down to how you portray the songs lyrics.
Personal favourite lyrics: Some people find the beauty in all of this I go straight to the dark side near this If its it bad is it always my fault?
Not my favourite of songs, still sung nicely though 7/10
5. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME This song is more upbeat and pop like. Pretty much self explanatory song, Pink doesn't want her lover to leave her. Basically the song has Pink admitting she's been nasty and insulting to her lover, but she doesn't mean it, shes apologising and shes still in love with this person, begging them not to leave her. It's a great song, great vocals, changing from slow to more upbeat in seconds. I can really relate to this song in many ways.
Personal favourite lyrics: How did i become so obnoxious What is it with you that makes me act like this? I've never been this nasty
Great vocals, catchy but meaningful song 10/10
6. BAD INFLUENCE This is my favourite song of all the album. It's rock-pop, very catchy and upbeat, with the greatest of choruses. This song sort of breaks away from the whole ex husband/heartbroken thing. It's a very fun song. It's all pretty much about being a party animal and enjoying it. It's also as the title states, being a bad influence on people. It's oh so catchy and you will probably find yourself singing it, I would say it's as catchy as So What, if not more.
Personal favourite lyrics: Lordy Lordy Lordy I can't help it I like to party, it's genetic It's electrifying, wind me up and watch me go Where she stops nobody knows A good excuse to be a bad influence on you
My favourite song of the lot, catchy and upbeat, fun fun fun 10/10
7. FUNHOUSE The album title song. Once again very upbeat and catchy. The song is pretty much about being in the 'fun' house Pink once lived in with her (i'm assuming) ex husband and not being able to face it, with all the happy memories gone by and good times she's had there with him. She sings about changing the house around, then in the end she can't face living in the house anymore and say's she'll find a new one, with refrences to burning the old place down. A less depressing song, but still with hints of sadness throughout.
Personal favourite lyrics: Echoes knocking on locked doors All the laughter from before I'd rather live out on the street Than in this haunted memory
Great catchy song, with hints of sadness, superb vocals 10/10
8. CRYSTAL BALL A lovely slow meaningful and honest song. It's very touching and sad. It starts off about getting drunk, trying to forget all your problems, but drink making it worse. It's also about being hurt that much that you don't care what happens to you in the end, as shes learnt so much from all the pain. A heartwrenching song, which i wouldn't advise listening to if you're feeling sad as it will probably make things worse.
Personal favourite lyrics: Oh I've felt that fire and I've been burned But I wouldn't trade the pain for what I've learned I wouldn't trade the pain for what I've learned
Sad and touching, but very honest 10/10
9. MEAN Sort of a country rock type of song. All about being with someone and then them falling out of love with you, losing the spark, and ending up arguing all the time. The song is about not being wanted and losing that special someone because they're not interested in you anymore. It's a good song, one of my least favourites but I still like it, and wouldn't consider it a rubbish song.
Personal favourite lyrics: When the spark has gone and the candles are out and the song is done and there's no more sound whispers turn to yelling and I'm thinking
Good song, honest from the heart 8/10
10. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT A good song, quite slowish and rocky, with a more faster chorus. The song is about losing someone, them wanting you at first, but not anymore, but you still wanting them. A case of unrequited love I guess. Not in my personal top 3, but a good song none-the-less. Vocals once again fantastic, and lyrics as well, it just doesn't appeal to me as most of the others.
Personal favourite lyrics: I'm trying to figure out what else to say To make you turn around and come back this way I feel like we could be really awesome together So make up your mind cause it's now or never
Good song 7/10
11. AVE MARY A Rock style song, quite a spoken song in bits, but then chorus is sung. One of my favourites. Vocals are superb. The meaning of the song for me doesn't jump out at me, but I think it's about losing someone (i see a chain appearing) having a broken heart and trying to get away. It's a shame I can't really explain the meaning as it's a great song.
Personal favourite lyrics: Where does everybody go when they go The go so fast I don't think they know We hate so fast And we love too slow
Fantastic song 10/10
12. GLITTER IN THE AIR A very slow sort of love song. The song is about being oh so much in love with that special someone. Pink is singing mostly about all these perfect moments that you can experience when your in love and how good they are. It's a very emotional song, very caring and love driven. Another of my favourites. It's the sort of song, if you're in love you'll know what Pink is talking about.
Personal favourite lyrics: Have you ever wished for an endless night? Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight?
Touching, heart warming 10/10
13. THIS IS HOW IT GOES DOWN A catchy fast paced song. It features Travis Mccoy. A great ending to the album. It's a song all about Pink being cheated on, and her being better off without her man, and him losing everything including the woman he cheated on Pink with when she finds out his true colours. A great small rap by Travis which is catchy, him being the male who 'cheated' on Pink, and him bascially saying he should of hid it better and been cleverer with the whole thing. Another one of my favourites, a good head bopper.
Personal favourite lyrics: This is your future as I see it You will be homeless bald and broken She will have left you when she finds out who you are You're nothing but an extra and baby I'm the star
Catchy, great ending to the album 10/10
*ALL IN ALL*
The album seems to be quite 'losing someone you love' orientated. Just listening to the lyrics and examining them for this review I have realised that deep down when you get to the core and meaning of the song, Pink's songs are very sad, most with hidden meanings. Personally I love Pink wether she's singing sad songs or really party upbeat catchy songs that you find your head bopping to. She's a great vocalist, who can write the most amazing touching lyrics, as I have experienced with all her albums, more imparticular this album Funhouse. If your a fan of Pink, and haven't got this album I suggest you go buy it, as honestly there isn't one song I dislike, and I doubt you'll regret it. The best £6.99 you'll be spending on an album.
Thanks for reading.
