Excellent hotel in Vienna

Advantages: Large rooms, clean, with firendly staff.
Disadvantages: 10 minute walk to shops and cathedral

The Hilton Vienna Plaza is an excellent hotel located on the Ringstrasse in Central Vienna, I will talk more about the hotels location later on. Before I arrived at the hotel I emailed the manager with a few questions about the local area and the hotel etc. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and I received an email back with all of my questions answered which was helpful. It took around twenty minutes to get to the hotel from the Airport, although on my way back to the airport at the end of my stay it took about thirty minutes because of heavier traffic. Check-in was fast and very efficient, the hotel staff were friendly and gave me a map of the local area. I booked to stay in a standard king room, the rooms at the hotel are a very nice size. Small, but perfectly formed hotel in Vienna

Advantages: Classy, comfortable, fantastic breakfast
Disadvantages: Not overly expensive, but the rates match how nice it is

, the Altstadt Vienna certainly fitted the bill. It was just right for a romantic stay and was the perfect base for our weekend. Location = The Altstadt Vienna is situated in an old-fashioned Viennese apartment building. As you enter the hallway you have to go up the wide and sweeping stone staircase to get to the reception which is on the first floor. Also on this floor is the 'red salon' and breakfast area (more on this anon), the 42 rooms are spread across the 2nd and 3rd floors. Because it is not a custom built hotel building, it feels like a slice of 'real Vienna'. The hotel is just 5 minutes walk (to the west) of the famous Vienna Ringstrasse where all the grand buildings are and a further 5 minutes to the heart of the city. Review of Altstadt Vienna, Vienna

Viewing Vienna

Advantages: Walking enables best viewing sytem but an efficient public transport system provides a good alternative
Disadvantages: City centre is not car friendly

from the hotel reception. A weekly ticket covers all of Vienna including the trams, buses, Schnellbahn trains and the underground. Walking Buy a good street map. This proved to be invaluable for us, both for finding our way around and to help us when asking for directions. The Ringstrasse can get pretty busy so take care when crossing. To make things more complicated trams run against the road traffic so it is important to look in both directions before venturing to cross. The Underground The U-Bahn is a quick and reliable method of transport. There are five main lines running through the city (U1, U2, U3, U4, U6). Why there is no U5, I do not know.
