Advantages: Gentle, tuneful, experiment al,relaxing, thought provoking,Lyrically sophisticated, just brilliant. Disadvantages: Mellow album which some may dislike, but I think this is what makes it so poignant.
First thought on this album is that this is a great title for an album! But then Mark Linkous (who essentially is Sparklehorse) is known for this. So 'Dreamt for light years in the belly of a mountain' is genuinely a really good album.
Musically it sounds like a melodic documentary of the human body filmed from the inside under water...this is the best way I can describe how the album sounds overall. Songs like 'Shade and honey' really confirm this description I think. Their sound is definitely experimental and 'studio' sounding but has a really nice feel to it that succeeds where bands like 'Air' fail.
Lyrically the album is strong too with many poetic viceral lyrics that are delivered with vocal poise and grace. In terms of sound and lyrics combined, this album is a bit like Smashing Pumpkins 'Gish' album but much more mellow ...
Advantages: A moving story that can be read again and again Disadvantages: None
Replay by Ken Grimwood is my all time favourite novel.
It begins with the death of the main character in the book, a guy by the name of Jeff Winston, a 42-year-old newsreader for a local radio station. On the 18th October 1988 at 1.06pm Jeff suffers a heart attack whilst sitting at his desk on the phone to his wife.
This rather odd start to this novel takes a dramatic turn when Jeff wakes up again in bed. Realising that he hasn't died after all he looks around at his surroundings, which look oddly familiar. There's an old song playing on the radio and a poster on the wall that Jeff recognises as being similar to one that he'd bought when he was at college. It's at this point that it dawns on him that he is in fact in the same room that he stayed in at college. His immediate thoughts are that this must be some extremely elaborate ...
Advantages: Lots of variety with little room for complaints Disadvantages: Some tracks get annoying
I believe this is the best Ludacris album to date, with the combination of hard-hitting crunk tunes with fight lyrics, also there are some softer sounding hits as well as sombre tracks with thought-provoking lyrics on this 'Distrubing Tha Peace' release.
1) "Intro"
Nice intro produced by Timbo. It gets you hyped up as he explains how he has got to this point in his career, bringing you up-to-date before going into "The Red Light District".
2) "Number One Spot"
This uses the Austin Powers soundtrack with heavy bass, as Ludacris spits about reaching the top of the charts. I found this much weaker than the other tracks and rather amateur as he talks about his money (which we all know exists) as a newcomer would - too cheesy for my liking.
**Three Stars**
3) "Get Back"
You've probably heard this before so this needs ...
