Jim Adkins is the vocalist and lead guitarist of the Jimmy Eat World, with Tom Linton on Rhythm guitar. Rick Burch is on bass. Zach Lind keeps the smashing beats on drums.
Futures is their fifth studio album. There is a good mixture of songs on this album, some songs are fast and some are slow, but all seem to have a lot of thought and passion behind them. 'Futures', 'Pain' & '23' my favourites on the album, with 'Drugs Or Me' & 'Polaris' being my least favourites. This album is a must for every music fan.
It album kicks off with the title song. 'Futures' is loud. It's a strong start to the album, it's catchy and generally a good track. 'Just Tonight' is next, it is strong but it's very repetitive.
'Work' is a song about two work colleges falling in love, but work getting in the way. It's a good song - but I am not a massive fan of it.
'Kill' is a song that everyone can relate to - when you like someone, and they don't like you back. It's a good song.
'The World You Love' is also good, it's hard to tell the exact meaning behind the song. But it sounds good.
'Pain' is one of my favourites. The strong drum beat fits the song so well. The lyrics seem quite deep. The song was the lead single from the album and charted well.
'Drugs Or Me' drags out for a bit too long. It lasts for 6 minutes without much happening. 'Polaris' is one of the weakest songs, it gets better towards the end.
'Nothing Wrong' has a kick arse intro. It's fast and catchy. Some parts of the song are very annoying - but overall, it's a pretty solid song.
'Night Drive' is a slower song - it's quite good, but it's not the best track on the album.
'23' is 7 minutes and 13 seconds long, and it is a gripping track. It's a classic Jimmy Eat World song. Not many bands can pull off a song for seven minutes - but Jimmy Eat World have done it in style. The song kicks off with a simple guitar riff, aided with a volin. The drums join in. It builds up and up, then fades away to the smooth vocals provided by Jim Adkins joins the song after 1 minute and 30 seconds. It's a shame that this song wasn't released as a single, but there are obvious problems with the length. But if you listen to one track from the album, then listen to 23.
