G3 - Live In Concert

Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai--toured as G3, a kind of super-roadshow featuring their own bands and, as in the last section of this recording, finally coming together onstage for a few numbers. One of the reasons why the whole package works so well is that Satriani's dirtyish techno-blues style, Johnson's limpid near-jazziness and Vai's pyrotechnics manage to seem poles apart yet entirely compatible at the same time, both as individual elements and as a frontline trio (although Johnson inevitably gets sidelined occasionally during the latter set). There are plenty of good tunes, although Johnson's "Manhattan", in which he switches from plectrum lead to gentle thumb-strums seemingly in mid-bar is outstanding, as is the trio'stour-de-forcerendering of Frank Zappa's "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama", Vai of course being a Zappa band veteran. On the DVD: Extra features are thin on the ground. There's a set of scrolling biographies (which don't understand the remote's "scan" command, so they go--by--very--slowly) but nothing else to speak of. In the end the playing is the thing on any outing like this, so just enjoy it.--Roger Thomas

Advantages: Some fantastic playing and great rock tunes Disadvantages: Some songs lack direction and musicality
...to suffice they sound cool ) There’s an odd funk feeling to this song, but overall a smooth track.
04. ANSWERES = Probably one of my favourite, and I think that the studio version doesn’t do the live version any justice. Just check out “ G3 with JoeSatriani and EricJohnson ) A tinny rhythm guitar, and more synth effect provide a some what artificial background track for the lead guitar, but ignore those. When the lead starts finally after 2mins messing around, it’s really nice, and easy on the ears, shame the song doesn’t go on for more. However in the effects of other instruments some of Steve’s tricky and delicate work can get lost a shame really. Overall a funky track… just short ! under 3mins !
05. THE RIDDLE = Very much like “The Animal” in sound, this could almost be an extent ion or break. Some of the melody can make you...

...JoeSatriani - also known as SATCH. JoeSatriani was born in Westbury, New York, and began playing guitar at age 14. Joe has 10 CD's so far (not counting the bootlegs). He started off with 'Not of this Earth' and his latest work is 'Engines of creation'.
I rate this guitarist very highly. I had the pleasure of watching him at a Concert in London some years ago. It was around the time he was about to release the extremist. Anyway this guitar hero can really hammer out amazing riffs. He does some really weird sounds (not sure how), he seems to be tapping the frets.
His albums collections are very varied ranging from Blues, rock and love songs. My favourite is when JoeSatriani teamed up with EricJohnson and SteveVai in G3Live. What guitar work.
His latest CD Engines of Creation has a track
"Until We Say Goodbye" which has been...

Advantages: It's another live Dream Theater cd! Disadvantages: None
...Prog rock masters Dream Theater's live offering from Budokan in Tokyo is, as expected, stunning!!
The American 5 piece (James LaBrie - vocals, John Petrucci - guitar, Mike Portnoy - drums, John Myung - bass and Jordan Rudess - keyboards), just shy of their 20th anniversary when this was recorded in 2004, serve up approximately 3 hours of live entertainment.
Dream Theater are one of the most commercially successful progressive rock bands in recent generations despite remaining somewhat unknown in mainstream rock circles. They are undoubtedly one of the most technically gifted bands out there, each member being highly regarded for their technical wizardry of their instrument. Indeed, drummer Portnoy has won several "Drummer of the Year Awards", guitarist Petrucci was recruited for G3 tours with fellow virtuosos JoeSatriani and Steve...
