Advantages: Putting money in poor, poor Louis Walsh's pocket Disadvantages: You're wasting your money

When my mother came home with the G4 and Il Divo albums, I was mortified! “You’re just putting more money in that over-paid Louis Walsh’s pocket!” I cried. Let’s face it, any group or individual who goes on a program like “X-Factor” can’t be very good because no talent scouts have picked them up yet and they’re desperate- although how many talent scouts would actually go to Butlins looking for talent!? The album cover is quite boring- plain white with a picture of the four chappies and a big “G4” above them. Hmmm… I’m sure every other debut album as a result of a TV talent show looks just like that! On the back, plain white background again and grey font, fairly large but it doesn’t jump out and say “Hey! Listen to me!” Inside the album cover, there are pictures of the four boys (the fat one annoys me… I think it’s his double chin!) and the lyrics to “their” songs. One thing that does annoy me about this is the lack of translations on songs such as Nessun Dorma. So on with the music itself. (Pause for a moment here to get into Simon Cowell mode). WHY???????? WHY????????????? WHY???????????? Bohemian Rhapsody could never be as good as when Queen performed it- or indeed when the guys in “Wayne’s World” head-banged to it, but G4 have officially ruined it! The formula for this song is identical to that of every other manufactured musicians- you have the lead singer and his stooges, sorry, backing singers. “Jonathan” (I wouldn’t know that had I not looked inside the CD sleeve) is like the Ronan Keating of Boyzone and the other three guys are like Mike, Keith and Shane (we discount Stephan Gately because he sometimes got to sing words instead of just “ooh” and “ahh” like the other minions). Manufactured rubbish! Yes, they have to place their own take on it and not sound totally like Queen but I would like to hear some of those high notes on “Meeeeeeeeeeeee” like a mouse on speed. Another memorable song would have to of course be “Everybody hurts”- another terrible cover. When I hear the REM version, I cry but when I hear the G4 album, I want to die. It doesn’t have that same uplifting, somebody else knows how I feel, feel. In fact, it’s fairly depressing. “The Circle of Life”- you mean these guys are gonna keep coming back and back and back like a boomerang? Oh God no! But yes they will- when we the public get bored of them the manufacturers will use the same formula on another group and the same will happen again and again. For the record the lyrics in the CD sleeve do not cover the African bit at the beginning. Again, it just doesn’t have the same feeling as when Elton John sang it and all the animals in “The Lion King” looked up at Mufassa and Simba. Nessun Dorma- perhaps a song the boys are most suited to because of their ability to sound quite operatic. I still think REAL opera singers are better at things like this. Just like every other song I’ve mentioned so far, I just don’t get the tingles! On the opera front again I shall confront “The Flower Duet”. This misses out the introduction of classical instruments. Having been brought up on classical music, I’ve listened to the song at nearly every “Opera in the Park” since I was six and I’m afraid, boys you missed the boat on this one too. The flower duet is meant for GIRLS! It sounds like a pitiful attempt to do opera and misses that “good line” by about 100000 miles! “You’ll never walk alone”- you will boys when the public and your record label have gotten bored of you and you’re working in McDonalds for a living! Mwahahaha! “Jerusalem”- this song will ALWAYS give me tingles. Not this time. I think I’ll stick to my annual dose at the “Last Night of the Proms” thanks very much. “My way”- no boys, Louis Walsh’s way! There are a few other songs on the album but these are the ones that spring to mind- notice they’re very famous songs! I’m sure that “Creep” was originally by TLC but I think it’s a totally different song. If you’re after a group that has jumped on the Il Divo (don’t really like them either but the one with long hair would be fit if he was a bit taller!) bandwagon with the manufactured pop element, then this is the group for you. Let’s all allow that poor, poor Louis Walsh to laugh all the way to the bank; I’m sure he’s really a bit hard-up at the moment…
Advantages: Brings music to everyone's ears! Disadvantages: Maybe not everyone's favourite but that will soon change!
...but when I first heard G4 on X-factor I was converted. I couldn't wait until G4 got signed and they released their first album, this one! Absolutely fantastic. It's your usual classical / operatic music with a hint of pop thrown in. The band is made up of four smashing guys although unfortunately you tend to hear mostly from Jonathan (blonde haired one). This will definately appeal to the young and old!
The album consists of 12 songs and really ... ...5 times in a row before I finally got dragged away from it.
1. Bohemian Rhapsody - It mad me giggle, listening to four buff men doing a version which you would only ever imagine Queen doing. You have to see the video of this too, HILARIOUS!
2. Nessun Dorma - One of those songs your either love or hate normally but it's actually good coming from G4. Vocals are amazing.
3. Everybody Hurts - One of those songs that usually bring a tear to your eyes ...

Advantages: Relaxing, easy-listening, brings classical music bang up to date Disadvantages: not everyones cup of tea!
...POP vibe there is the G4 rendition of Radiohead's 90's chart-buster "Creep" and also "Circle Of Life" which begins with great acoustic vocals.
If you choose to buy this album you are essentially agreeing to become a fan of the ever increasing trend in "pop-orah" music (a fusion of modern pop with timeless classical). If you are a fan of other bands in a similar category (i.e. Il Divo) you will probably enjoy this album, and even if you don't - you ...

Advantages: Can have a laugh if nothing else Disadvantages: most of the songs, and now actually have a picture
...X Factor, i thought that G4 weren't that bad, infact I thought they sang a few good songs, and i thought hit me one more time was hilarious, as were some of the clothes they wore.
I have to admit the best description of G4 that i have heard has got to be from Chris Moyles, and its not that complimentary. Basically he says that 2 of them should sing behind a brick wall, and another behind frosted glass, so that you can only really see one of them. ... ...I have to admit is funny. I don't know why but when i listen to it I just have to laugh, maybe it's that squeaky voice trying to sing Bohemian Rhapsody, or maybe its because i can actually picture the face of the blond one's head movements when he sings. I also think that the beginning of the circle of life is just funny, i don't think any of them can speak any foreign language, cos whatever they say at the beginning is totally different to what ...

Advantages: Absolutely none Disadvantages: Where do i start
...the best bands around, Radiohead. G4 succesfully manage to murder it, and when i heard these singing it on tv, i had to immediately listen to the radiohead version to reassure myself of it's greatness. It's not only bad enough that they sing the classic songs by queen, radiohead etc. but the fact that they cut them short such as bohemium rhapsody being almost cut in half shows a lack of respect to the song itself. I haven't got much else to say about ...

Advantages: Easy listening, something to unwind to. Disadvantages: None spring to mind
G4 sprang into limelight on the XFactor and managed to reach the final along with ummm ur Steve something or other! Steve won (where is he now) G4 came second. They now have two albums, and sell out concerts.
These four classically trained lads were busking by the River Thames before they came to life in the X Factor. They look and dress like four ordinary men who you'd walk past in the street, but the magic when they open their mouths is spine tingling. Now admittedly that's only my opinion, but my husband think they're awesome, and my two sons insist on listening to them as they drift off to sleep. G4's voices are so soothing and relaxing you can do anything while they're singing, they even make housework fun.
I bought the first album and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it as a drove to and from work, school runs etc. all ...
Advantages: Easy Listening and Familar Songs Disadvantages: G can't think of any
I bought this album just before Christmas and I am so glad I did. My partner actual got it for me and had to choose between this one and their previous album. He also advised me that he had bought the one with the two diva's. I wondered who these two diva's could be. It took me quite a while to realise that he actually meant il divo....
Anyway, G4 came to our attention through the XFactor. They reached the final and it was a case of G4 v's Steve. They definatly had my vote. They are a group of four classical trainined singers. The great thing about them is to look at them they all look like four ordinary blokes. Nothing too special. The magic happens when they open their mouths to sing.
G4 & friends is the second album and because I have not heard their first I have nothing to compare it with but will almost certainly buy the first ...
Advantages: Varied movements, esp. 1st and 4th. One of Mahler's most popular works. Disadvantages: 2nd movement a little weak.
sample his work so judge for yourself.

Symphony No.4 In G: II. In Gemachlicher Bewegung. Ohne Hast

This is the self-titled debut from 2004 X-Factor runners up G4. The album sees the boys take on various contemporary and classical songs and re-work them into their own mix of opera, pop, and rock. The album includes their popular renditions of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody', Radiohead's 'Creep', and 'Nessun Dorma', all of which were performed in the X-Factor final.
