Advantages: Some big tunes Disadvantages: Some experiments didn't always work
“G N’ R Lies” came in 1988 as the follow-up to Guns N’ Roses’ classic debut album “Appetite For Destruction”. This short release finds the Hard Rock band moving things on fairly significantly from their last release with them tackling social issues and trying out new approaches in the actual style of the music too.

1. “Reckless Life”
They get things underway with this one as you find that they power through with what sounds essentially like an extension of the sort of material that was found on the album prior to this one with some intense material that will hype you up and get you ready for what is to come through the rest of this short release from the band. It does its job and you can’t really do without it as it is perfect at attracting you to the album.
**Four Stars**
2. “Nice Boys”
Covering material from Rose Tattoo, this one finds them coming out with another track that is seen to keep things rolling in the manner that people who enjoyed their debut will really enjoy as they come out with a roaring jam that has them playing in the intense manner about the hardcore material that they are drilling out. What they go off with is very relevant to them, and they make the song their own.
**Four Stars**
3. “Move To The City”
As they get into this one I couldn’t help but feel that it didn’t quite have the same effect as what was felt on other occasion with their music as although they kicked it off well through Slash’s engaging guitar riff, after this point in the thing it doesn’t really go anywhere. I expect that some more into the Hard Rock style will get more out of it, but personally I felt that it was a rather average track from them.
**Three Stars**
4. “Mama Kin”
You see them moving into more classic Rock here as they throw down some Aerosmith with this one and personally I felt as though it led to them coming out with an improved tune (in comparison to the track that came prior to this one) and were back at the expected high levels that bring out the best from them as they perform a track which is done in their style, but has Axl sing a song that perhaps wouldn’t be directly associated with them (though it works here).
**Four Stars**
5. “Patience”
This is a track on the release that I have to simply say that I had no love for whatsoever. In this one you get the major shift in the music as they lose the Hard Rock elements in order to come with some acoustic material. It did nothing for me at all and I felt that the combination of the acoustic work and the lifeless vocals from Axl (which are completely like his usual self) made it put me off the album temporarily.
**One Star**
6. “Used To Love Her”
Here you see that the acoustic side persists, but you get much more energy out of it and so it seems to be an improvement upon it. You see that Stradlin rhymes a perfect song, and in spite of the fact it only consists of four lines, you really won’t get a catchier tune. It is impossible not to get into it once you have heard the hook repeated a couple times and you feel the annoyance in Axl’s voice and how it is lifted once he has got it out of himself after saying it a few times.
**Five Stars**
7. “You’re Crazy”
In an alternative acoustic reworking of a track from their debut, this one sees them coming in strong with more of the empowering material that is bound to affect all listeners and drag you into the mix as they do their thing. Axl still doesn’t appear to have recovered with his vocal delivery, however the rawness of it is still there and so is able to send the messages to the listeners just as well without him being in perfect condition at the time.
**Four Stars**
8. “One In A Million”
They end the album on a massive high as they come out with a massively controversial piece and one that I felt really did big things as you see that Axl comes through well with his first attempt at writing solo and tough he may have gone a little too far with his choice of words, they seem to make his messages much more impactful to the listener as he sings out his experiences of being hustled in LA before going on to directly express his feelings towards other social groups that may not appreciate the song either.
**Four Stars**
Although it has to be seen as a step down from the debut album that they brought the year prior, I felt that this record was a strong one from them. It isn’t as impactful as their first (until you get to the final track) but still shows the strength and capabilities of them, even when they move out of the typical Hard Rock style.
Advantages: Excellent original songs, includes 'Patience' Disadvantages: More or less a stop-gap from the record company
GN'R Lies was the short LP released by Geffen records after the debut 'Appetite For Destruction', used as a stop gap between records. It features several live covers such as Aerosmith's 'Mama Kin', delivered in that high-pitched snarl of Axl Rose.
Despite the lack of original material, there are several highlights, which all happen to be new songs - 'Patience', 'Used To Love Her' and 'One In A Million'. It is at this point Guns N' Roses were reserved ... ...songs are by far the highlight of an otherwise classic-rock cover album.
'Patience' is a heart-wrenching ballad, co-written by Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. It is of an acoustic arrangment, which gives Guns N' Roses a softer dimension that had never really been explored before.
'Used To Love Her' is perhaps the only Guns N' Roses song to written out of jest, as once proclaimed by Axl Rose. It centres around the idea of a woman driving her boyfriend/husband ...

Advantages: good songs and selection of songs Disadvantages: addictive
If there are any G'n'R fans out there who still dont have this album go and get it, the same goes for any rock fans who like down to earth, uplifting rock music, this album is for you. The album has been put together brilliantly, starting out with songs Reckless Life, Nice Boys, Move to the City and Mama Kin. All first four songs are more of a fast paced hard rock variety which is simply music to the ears and very enjoyable listening, i regularly ... ...as good as him tho i dont sound as good. Song 5 is patience this is a personal favourite of mine and goes from the usual hard rock to a melow chilling song, this song always makes me feel better when a little down over some things. Used to Love Her is the next track and i think will put a smile on any mans face, i would imagine it would with women aswell who can see the funny side of it same with Your Crazy track 7. On to the final track One in a ...

Advantages: Raw G'N'f'n'Rs Disadvantages: not what you'd expect from the Roses
Guns 'n Roses have been around longer than the Freddie Murcury Tribute concert, that shot there status through the roof making them a the Largest Rock band for a long time. with Sellout stadium tours across the globe. They started out play small time clubs and bars in LA, and were the essence of Glam/Punk of the mid to late 80's. they released a demo called 'Live like a sucide' that never made the mass market which I believe was a pitty, but the ... ...ten hit in the UK with Paradise City, this gave them a second chance.
So came this 'Lies' many of the songs on this album were on the original Demo, making the album sound less produced and mixed and sounding more raw/live. Songs like ''I used to love her....But I had to kill her'' was always a favourite of mine, as it was about a dog, and to the trained ear you can actually hear a dog barking near the middle of the song, ( I don't know if this ...

Advantages: good music Disadvantages: may cause air guitaritus
Guns 'n Roses have always been top of my play list and lies is no exception. Lies is simply all you need for almost any occasion. Track list- Reckless life, Nice boys, Move to the city, Mama kin, Patience, Used to love her, You're crazy, One in a million. All of which are fantastic and will get your blood pumping while jumping up and down playing air guitar in the mirror (everyone does it). Reckless life has a great beat and rhythm and is easy to ... ...(personally i think its impossible not to
Nice boys has a very fast beat which from what i can tell is constantly to time. The lyrics are some times less coherent than over tracks but it sounds fantastic.
Move to the city in my opinion is the the worst track on the album. However is still one that I would not skip and Slash as always sounds amazing on Lead guitar.
Mama Kin is an inspired song and one of my favourates from the album, and can be ...
