The band themselves have a tendency to keep away from strong experimentation, meaning that this one misjudged song in no way has any bearing on the rest of the album. In fact, their music only shows small progression from their original ... ...in production value, with the overall tone and sound of the music remaining light-hearted and fun. This is an album which is designed to appeal to the biggest market possible, and does so without selling out on actual musical talent (unlike, y'know… Westlife). Spoon have a habit of kicking off each album with a strong powerhouse song, such as (album no 5) Gimme Fiction's "Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine", and they continue this here with "Don't Make ...

Advantages: songwriting, emotion, creativity, sonics Disadvantages: only thirty six minutes of it!
...to bring to the mix. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is no exception: at a meagre 36 minutes, it manages to encompass a variety of emotions as well as mysterious sonics. It's the attention to detail and raw sentiment that makes this record possibly their best since A Series Of Sneaks.
1. Don't Make Me A Target: From somewhere emerges an echo-y two-note guitar riff, soon joined by stuttering drums and Britt Daniel's inimitable vocal - agressive, snarly: here's a ... ...heard. An oddly structured song; after two verses and two choruses, a short interlude and a repeat of the chorus. Is the song coming to an end? Na-ah. The band break down into a massive jam with new chord progressions, changes of tempo, rhythm and instrumentation until you can't remember how the tune started. Not to worry; they'll play you the chorus once more before they're done.
