Advantages: Fabulous night out, excellent food Disadvantages: only a teeny tiny one - read and find out!!
On the first night of our recent visit to York we ventured out to find somewhere to eat as the hotel was a tad expensive for us commoners!
When we entered the city walls we asked the first people we met where the best area/restaurant was to eat. Both of them immediately answered Akbars, an Asian restaurant, which luckily was just around the corner on George Hudson Street. They also gave us options for Chinese and Mexican food but both of them were adamant that Akbars was the best.
We walked round to the restaurant and had a look at the menu outside the front door. As I'm a vegetarian I need to ensure that any restaurant I visit is going to have a good selection of meals for me to choose from and not just one or two veggie options. There was a very large amount of meals for me to choose from and we happily went inside ...
Advantages: good all round fun film Disadvantages: story
Amar Akbar Anthony is a Hindi language film which was released in 1977 and it is the first Hindi film I recall ever seeing as a child.
PLOT SUMMARY
Kishanlal (Pran) is an ex con fleeing from the mob who leaves his wife and three young sons in the process. His wife Bharati (Nirupa Roy) becomes blind and is separated from her children who end up being brought up by a Hindu policeman, a Muslim tailor and a Catholic priest with new names of Amar (Vinod Khanna), Akbar (Rishi Kapoor) & Anthony (Amitabh Bachchan). The boys grow up to be a policeman, singer and chancer respectively. As the story develops we see them meet the women of their dreams (Shabana Azmi, Neetu Singh and Parveen Babi) under varying circumstances and whether or not the family is finally reunited with the bad guys still on the loose (Jeevan and Ranjeet ...
Advantages: Good central location, pleasant surroundings, tasty food at good prices Disadvantages: Service a little slow at times, average for Bradford
Omar Khan's is a fairly traditional Indian restaurant situated in the centre of Bradford. We were in town for a weekend of curry and had eaten lunch that day at a very modern establishment so I wanted to go for the more traditional British "curry house" in the evening. I found Omar Khan's listed on the Visit Bradford website and a look at the restaurants own website was encouraging.
The restaurant is situated on the south side of the city centre, beside the national Television and Media Museum and the Alhambra Theatre. The restaurant has a small car-park but there are other car-parks nearby and it's a five minute walk to the train and bus stations at Bradford Interchange. It wasn't immediately obvious where the main entrance was as we approached the building from the side and climbed up a small flight of steep steps.
The initial ...

Album Reviews
Audio Magazine (2/94, p.86) - "...Khan's reputation as a composer and performer rests on his evocative interpretations of traditional ragas and his lyrical and intense musicianship with the sarod (an unfretted 25 string lute carved from a single black of wood and covered with goatskin)..."
