I'm currently rewriting all of my old reviews to make them better and more in line with 'proper' reviews like you see on the liks of Pitchfork or Stylus, and naturally that's going to take a bit of work. I'll try to rewrite this review as quickly as possible, but for the moment I've written ... ...serve as a place holder until my glorious full and proper review is created. This is a severely disappointing album, with few highlights. The only songs I can recommend are "Pagaent of the Bizarre" and "Waiting To Die", two fizzy pop songs that are the only decent tracks on here. A let-down. ...

Advantages: More chilled out grooves for the summer Disadvantages: A few duffers
When the sun is beating down, the steering wheel is red hot to the touch and you just want to chill then the last thing you need on the car stereo is something slightly heavy. You just want to chill as you hurtle down the bypass and for that you need some chilled tunes.
Thankfully every few summers Zero 7 come to help, this summer sees their latest spinning in my car. The Garden sees the duo return with more mellow musings for you to enjoy while ... ...This time around the 7 have enlisted acoustic man of the moment Jose Gonzales to provide some of the vocal accompaniment. This is highlighted on opening track 'Futures'. An acoustic based song with mellow Gonzales vocals, a smooth jazz feel and a few electronic twiddling thrown in for good measure. It set's the mood for the record.
'Throw It All Away' sees the return of regular collaborator Sia Furler on vocals. This is one of the breeziest songs ...

Eden...almost Review ofGarden, The - Zero 7by

Advantages: Different to their usual stuff. Beautiful melodies. Disadvantages: Difficult to get used to...occasionally repetitive.
Zero 7 are kind of chilled out downtempo electronica group which started in 2001. It is just a pair of guys, Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker, but features loads of other artists such as: Jose Gonzales, Sophie Barker, Tina Dico.
Zero 7's new album, The Garden I found quite hard to get into, and I must say, initially I was disappointed. With their other two albums, Simple Things and When It Falls taking an honoured place on my CD shelves I felt a little ... ...it, heard each song a few more times. Believe it or not, I actually suddenly found some of the songs really growing on me. The album has some really beautiful melodies, and one stood out instantly, the track Left Behind: short but perfect, just guitar and voice in a haunting melody. I have found many of the male vocalists songs to be in a similar style to that of Jose Gonzales (who's album Veneer you may be familiar with). Some of the female singers ...

Album Notes: In embarking on their quest toward crafting lush, electronic pop songs, one can forgive U.K. downtempo duo Zero 7 for perhaps taking the path less traveled. In the span of two albums they have evolved from pop-influenced electronica to the more fleshed-out arrangements of their latest effort, THE GARDEN. Along with contributions from a cast of noted vocalists such as Sia Furler and Jose Gonzalez, the new album moves away from digital trickery and brings organic instrumentation and vocals to the fore, bathing the songs in luxuriant arrangements with pop hooks to spare.
