Advantages: Short, imaginative, appealing to children and adults, relates to people's experiences Disadvantages: Makes adults feel guilty
to think of it. It certainly made me as a parent smile a little wryly. How many times does the normal parent say Not Now as they rush to do something else? It seemed to me that David McKee understood this aspect of family life perfectly and worked on it to make a perfect little picture book story. Very few words but an idea that allows the reader to wonder what has exactly happened and what is about to happen.

Advantages: A short book perfect for bedtimes. Disadvantages: Not a starter reader book.

Elmer is an elephant, but no ordinary elephant...............she's not grey like the others but is a brightly coloured patchwork elephant who instantly appeals to young children who generally love vibrant colours.
Elmer was first introduced in 1989 with the book ...
