Advantages: Short, imaginative, appealing to children and adults, relates to people's experiences
Disadvantages: Makes adults feel guilty

to think of it. It certainly made me as a parent smile a little wryly. How many times does the normal parent say Not Now as they rush to do something else? It seemed to me that David McKee understood this aspect of family life perfectly and worked on it to make a perfect little picture book story. Review of Not Now Bernard - David McKee

Elmer and bedtimes, my son's favourite!

Advantages: A short book perfect for bedtimes.
Disadvantages: Not a starter reader book.

My son is at an age where his reading tastes are changing by the day, no longer is he drawn to the generic boys books, these I would deem as the ones featuring fire engines and Thomas the tank engine (thankfully!), but is more interested in the story itself. After a recent trip to the library, my son spotted the book I will now review as was drawn to it for the simple reason, that it contained a character that his nursery teachers encouraged the children to read about. The book I will now review is - ?Elmer in the snow by David McKee? For any of you who are unfamiliar with Elmer, he is, in a nutshell, an elephant that has patchwork skin. Review of Elmer In The Snow - David McKee

What's your favourite colour?

Advantages: Great for pre-school children for learning colours.
Disadvantages: Too short.

Apologies to readers as ciao have mixed up the front cover and the title. This review is about the title 'Elmer's colours', not the photo shown...............gremlins!! Anyway to make ammends for their error I will add a photo of the front cover of the book so you know what you are looking for if you want to buy one after reading this. Who is Elmer? ~ Elmer is the creation of David McKee. I'm never sure of the sex of Elmer, the name to me suggests a girl but I would appreciate it if someone could verify this. Anyway I will for the purpose of this review use 'she'. Elmer is an elephant, but no ordinary elephant...............she's not grey like the others but is a brightly coloured patchwork elephant who instantly appeals to young children who generally love vibrant colours.
