NUMBER ONE
There is no hesitation in my first choice, and the choice is nothing to do with the music or lyrics - in fact musically it is probably one of their worst creations - but emotionally and sentimentally it is very important to me and started my love affair with the group.
This song is 'Love Me Do'. The song was recorded on the 11 th of September 1962 and was the first Beatles release on the Parlophone label for EMI. It was one of the first songs that the Beatles wrote. The Lyrics to the song were written by Paul
The reason I have chosen this is a rather long story, but her goes. It was Christmas 1962 and I was in my first year at Grammar School. Our school dances were a bit of a legend ( and a nightmare) for weeks prior the girls school and boys school met for dancing lessons while we learnt the ballroom dances for the dance ( yes BALLROOM dances not exactly what teenagers in the sixties really wanted!!) So we had our first half or ballroom dancing and in the interval we were allowed to have records played that we took in ourselves.
One of my friends had German relatives, who had told her about this group - The Beatles- and she had the record 'Love Me Do'. From the first instant I LOVED the record, so much that that weekend I went out and bought it - there was a slight problem - I didn't have a record player !!!!!!

I didn't have to wait long to play my treasured disc as I was given my cousin's Dansette record player - anyone my agea will remember them but for you younger readers, the Dansette was like a small suitcase with a handle, and a 'must have' for teenagers at that time. Armed with your Dansette and a handful of records you would go to your friends house and play your 45's and swoon over the singers!!
My next purchase was my beloved, my oh so beloved Please, Please Me album in 1963. This album contained their two singles (Love me do; Please Please me) and ten new songs, four of which were written by or more Lennon and McCartney.

NUMBER TWO
'I Saw Her Standing There'
Perhaps it was because this was the first song on the Please, Please Me album but I always loved this song.
To me this song epitomised life at that time for my age group, it reminded me of our dances, youth clubs etc - and of course - Paul was singing about me !!! It is a simple story of a boy spotting a girl on the dance floor and deciding that she is the girl for him.

There were no singles on theis album.

NUMBER THREE
All My Loving
Ignore all rumours that Paul McCartney was inspired by his relationship with Jane Asher when he wrote this - it was ME he was thinking of!!!!
This is a lovely song, I loved listening to it as I lay in bed. Paul double tracked his voice on the song and George plays a country and western guitar solo in the middle that seems to blend into the song perfectly.

By now I had received my very own brand spanking new record player, a red Fidelity one, I could load ten records on to drop one at a time - technology eh !!!!
My next album was the Beatles third album - A Hard Day's Night. This album contained contained thirteen songs all written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney This is the only Beatles album to consist entirely of Lennon/McCartney compositions. Though many Beatles albums had lyrics only the Beatles had written, these also contained contributions from either George Harrison or Ringo Starr. . Two singles came off the album 'Can't buy me love' (released three months before the Hard Days Night Album) and a Hard Days Night (issued at the same time as the album)
A Hard Day's Night

The next album was Beatles for Sale
It contained fourteen songs, eight of which were written by the Beatles. As the Beatles did not want to release a single they wrote two other songs; I feel fine and She's a woman; they released this combination a week before the release of Beatles for Sale. Beatles for Sale Album tracks: 14 Year: 1964 (4th December) Length: 36.58 Produced by: George Martin The fifth Album was Help This album contained fourteen songs, twelve of which, were written by members of the Beatles; ten by Lennon and McCartney and two by George Harrison. The album was released to coincide with the movie of the same name' and off this album I have picked my
NUMBER FOUR
You're Gonna Lose That Girl
John wrote most of the lyrics to this song and he also sang lead vocals on with both George and Paul adding the backing vocals.

Album: Help: Track 6 Year: 1965 Lyrics: Lennon and McCartney Length: 2.18

NUMBER FIVE
is also from Help and is
Yesterday
Although this is clAssed as a Beatles song and a Lennon/McCartney composition it was written completely by Paul McCartney and Paul is the only member of the Beatles who records on the track; he is joined by a string quartet. Paul plays both the piano and acoustic guitar on the yesterday track.
I love this song and have seen Paul sing it live in Paris.
Beatles role in the making of Yesterday John Lennon : Did not play a part in the recording of yesterday. Paul McCartney: Vocals, Acoustic guita, Piano. George Harrison : Did not play a part. Ringo Starr : Did not play a part. Session Musicians: String Quartet
NUMBER SIX
comes from the Beatles 6th Album - Rubber Soul, recorded in 1965. Musically many new sounds were tried out on this album, with Paul McCartney playing the fuzz guitar, George Martin mixing double speed piano tracks and George Harrison playing the guitar, but tuned to a western style. It was the beginning of a big change in the beatles music.
Michelle
is the record I have chosen Written by Paul it was inspired by his days as an art student in Liverpool.
By the time of their seventh album, Revolver, the Beatles music was heaily influenced by the hippy movement and George Harrison's love of Indian music and guru culture. There are some great songs on this album - including Elinor Rigby, but the song I have chosen from this album for
NUMBER SEVEN
is Here, There and Everywhere.
Paul McCartney wrote the lyrics to here, there, and everywhere, a song that many, including John Lennon, consider to be the Beatles greatest love song. Paul was influenced by the beach Boys while writing this song. It is a haunting and lovely song with Paul singing vocals.
The Beatles next album was what is regarded as many as their best album ever, and it is the title song of this album that I am choosing for my
NUMBER EIGHT
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band
I think that this track is pretty self explanatory.
The lyrics were written by Paul and the music by Lennon?McCartney. This track is the first time that heavy guitars had been used as the main sound rather than just backing instruments. The Beatles experimented with stereo on this track and the chorus drifts from the left hand channel into the centre. When Paul starts the verse again he can be heard on the right hand channel of the stereo.
Sgt. Peppers lonely hearts club band : Track 1 Year: 1967 Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney Length: 1.59
Individual Beatles role on Sgt. Peppers lonely hearts club band John Lennon: Lead Vocals, Lead guitar. Paul McCartney: Lead Vocals, Bass guitar. George Harrison: Backing Vocals, Lead guitar Ringo Starr: Drums George Martin: Organ Other: Four Horn
NUMBER NINE
is again both the record title and the album title, this time I have chosen Let It Be.
Again this song is another that I saw Paul sing live and it was beautiful. I think it is most poigniant as it is coming to the end of the Beatles.
It was recorded in 1969 well before the Beatles broke up and before the recording of the Abbey Road album. The let it be lyrics were written by Paul McCartney at a time when the group were falling apart. s egos. Paul made himself the leader of the group as he saw the Beatles falling apart. Let it be is him describing the feelings that were going on in his mind during this time. Although the Let it be song has religious undertows the mother Mary in the song is not the virgin Mary but Paul's mother Mary, who died when Paul was a young teen, he often dreamt of his mother and the answers that she gave him when he was young that helped him through his toughest times.
Let It be : Track 6 Year: 1970 Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney Length: 4.01
Individual Beatles role on Let It Be John Lennon: Lead guitar Paul McCartney: Vocals, Piano George Harrison: Bass guitar Ringo Starr: Drums Billy Preston: Organs Others: Organ, Horn I had to include this last song in my list and although it is
NUMBER TEN
it is not my least favourite, far from it !!
This song is
Hey Jude
Written by Paul in 1968 it was the first single from The Beatles' record label Apple Records. At over seven minutes long, "Hey Jude" was at the time the longest single ever to top the British charts.
Hey Jude was written by Paul McCartney about John's Son Julian. Paul was a great friend of Cynthia and Julian and would often visit them during his time with the Beatles.
This was the song that was most memorable during the concert I saw in Paris, the whol audience were singing along with PAul and for the full 7+ minutes I had my mobile on playing it to my daughter back at home - cost me a fortune!!!!!
Well that's my ten - and I'm not going to check them over or I'll be changing them again. It was very hard to pick ten and you can see why when this is the list of their songs!!

Advantages: Great Group Disadvantages: The death of John Lennon
The Beatles……..What about those Haircuts!! I remember well the rise of The Beatles in the sixties. I was still at primary school when the four Liverpool lads hit the charts with “She loves you Yeah, Yeah,Yeah”. I hated that damn song and never really took to these four guys who were taking the pop world by storm with their new image of smart suits and that Beatle haircut. And those Beatle boots they wore, I remember wearing ... ...they were a terrible style. The next hit “ Twist and Shout” also hit the top spot and The Beatles were well and truly on their way to fame and fortune. In our local Woolworth’s that Xmas they were actually selling plastic Beatle wigs, I kid you not..Another thing that started about the same time was the bubblegum cards. That was a set of 3 cards containing pictures of The Beatles as well as a stick of bubblegum. I still recall my ...

INTRODUCTION:
The Beatles. How many times have we heard their story? Their rise to stardom from playing dingy Liverpool dancehalls for sometimes nothing more than a plate of beans and some beer, to Beatlemania hysteria, and then eventually the messy end and worn down friendships which the band departed with, along with entanglements of contracts to try and make it on their own. However, the story of the Beatles is a fascinating one of talent and ... ...the world and eventually the world shook them, but no matter what stood in their way, their music was nothing short of 'fab'.
THE STORY:
Starting Out:
The Beatles first began under the name of 'The Quarrymen', a skiffle group fronted by a young John Lennon. 'The Quarrymen' embraced the new tamed English version of rock 'n' roll, which for a short time would wash over English teenagers like a plague. Soon, everyone was in a skiffle band. But the ...

I think the Beatles will live on as one of the biggest ever contributors to modern day music. They were one of the best songwriters with the partnership of Lennon and Macartney and were great entertainers with their live show antics. Its interesting to see how many modern day performers are influenced by their music and writing styles. Oasis freely admit to their beatle influences. Liam Gallagher even named his son after John Lennon.Their earlier ... ...roll style that they offered from their cavern days. With the advent of mind altering chemicals, their music disintergrated into the strange type of music that appears ono their later albums. The beatles may age and die, but their music and influence never will.
The band consisted of the following people.
George Harrison - Lead Guitar.
A good performer and good guitarist. He was overshadowed in the band by the front 2 but was very shy and reserved.

The Beatles were a complete, both British and international legend! Ever body knows who they are and most people know all their full names and a hell of a lot about them. Millions of singers and artists are influenced by their brilliant style and ambitions. John Lennon alone is an extremely good song writer and singer and it is a very, very great tragedy that he is not still alive today. The rest of the band still live on but this tragedy is one ...

Advantages: Consistent, often brilliant songs from start to finish Disadvantages: None
For years "Revolver" languished in the shadow of "Sergeant Pepper", but now it seems generally recognised as the musical peak of the Beat;les' career, They were still playing their own instruments throughout, barring the occasional guest musician; they were writing great songs; and they hadn't yet started to get self-indulgent. John Lennon was aeons ahead of the time with the extraordinary, trippy "Tomorrow Never Knows" (what was that about Tibetan monks, John?) and writing rockers with attitude like "And Your Bird Can Sing", Paul was reaching new heights with the exquisite "For No One" and "Eleanor Rigby", George Harrison was shaking his fist at the government on "Taxman". You want dope songs? There's "Dr Robert". You want a singalong number for the kids? There's "Yellow Submarine". You want good uncomplicated pop? There's "Good ...
Advantages: Wall to wall Lennon-McCartney Disadvantages: None
Over half of the songs on the Beatles' third album appeared in their first movie, and this was the first album - in fact, the only one of their career - to feature nothing but Lennon-McCartney compositions, though admittedly the majority were mainly John's work. At last they had a chance to come into their own as writers, and what a batch of songs they offered us. The exuberant title track, the previous single "Can't Buy Me Love", and the harmonica-led "I Should Have Known Better", were all up-tempo bona fide Beatles classics. Only the ballads "If I Fell" and "And I Love Her" slowed the pace down.
The songs on the other side have generally been overlooked, but there's nothing substandards about rockers like "Any Time At All" or "I'll Cry Instead", the first of mainly Beatles songs to be coveed by Joe Cocker, while "Things We Said ...
Advantages: ˝ The greatest hits of "The greatest band ever" Disadvantages: erm...........no, cna't think of any, ooh yes, expensive
Well, where can you start with the Beatles? Well, here wouldn't be toobad a place, the songs are generally of quite a high quality, with only a few which could be classed as "not great", but the fact that i have to stoop to saying one or two of the songs AREN'T classics should tell yu exactly how good this compilation truly is. Everyone knows (and most love) the endearing classics like 'Let It Be', 'Hey Jude' (The song i was named after), 'Penny Lane' and the rest. There is no doubting that this is a compilation that only those with all the Beatles albums dare overlook. There is classic after classic, with all the songs sounding different, not 20-odd soundalikes.
A truly masterful album. ...
