the title of his latest album Get Rich or Die Trying. The New York native comes from the same school as B.I.G, Shine and Mobb Deep--a raw street rhymer who mixes the thug and poet in one perplexing package. 50 cent earned extra cred by coming up through mix-tape popularity after his first album was dropped when the ex-boxer was shot on the eve of its release. Guns, threats, drug deals and misogyny populate 50 Cent's outlaw world, but it's a popular mix--hence his recently sealed link with Eminem's record company. The excellent "Wanksta" was pulled onto the 8 Mile soundtrack and Dr Dre produced the crunching first single, "In Da Club". Jamaican Sean Paul puts his now familiar patter on the hypnotic "Dem Not Ready". "If You Want It" is a ridiculously rude party joint, while "Cocaine Dreams" takes a pop at Ja Rule. "Got the Hood on Smash" is, undoubtedly, damn funky. Sadly his first single "How to Rob an Industry N***A" (reminiscent of B.I.G's equally scabrous "Dreams") doesn't appear. Even the most hardcore have to tone it down sometimes. --Jake Barnes

...on Eminem's Shady Records, entitled Get Rich or Die Trying, has more bark than its bite. Even Aftermath CEO and legendary producer / rapper Dr. Dre was quoted in saying that this album was going to be another hip hop classic, along the lines of Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic, The Chronic, and Marshall Mathers LP. Advantages: Catchy beats, memorable lyrics, good appearances Disadvantages: Can be offensive/ too explicit/ glorifies guns and violence
...himself. No one else can get the rumbling threatening bark off pat like DMX really. It does work well though on its own, I like the vocals Of Young Buck and hope to hear more from this guy in the future.
10 Back Down **************
This track amuses me, in a good way of course. The prime culprit of bringing humour into the track is the lyrics:
'It's easy to see when you look at me
If you look closely, 50 don't BACK DOWN
Everywhere I go both ... ...is very funny, nice to get some sarcastic humour laced with derision, cynicism and disdain. Just my kind of wit.
11 P.I.M.P. ***********
This track has also been a hit single, and I must admit I vastly prefer the album version to the one featuring Snoop. P.I.M.P is all about being in the 'bling bling' world of whores and pimps. I'm not too keen on the thought of rappers glorifying the concept of pimps- makes me feel pretty uncomfortable to be honest. ...

Well its safe to say that no rapper since 2pac himself has had such exposure and attention that 50 cent has been getting in the past years since he outed his first debut LP "Get Rich Or Die Trying" as the album is aptly titled. The album is his first debut with the Shady/Aftermath Crew but 50 cent did have albums before this which included the underground classic "Power to the Dollar" and "Guess Who's Back" ...

Advantages: Fabulously entertaining Disadvantages: Pretty darn repetitive in terms of self-expression
...this talent to a tee. Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ is 50 Cent’s follow up on his previous underground release entitled Guess Who’s Back. It tells the tale of an aspiring rapper who has been ‘Patiently Waiting’. Now that wait is over. Once a single copy of one of 50 Cent’s various mixtapes made its way into the hands of controversial rapper Eminem, it was inevitable that an all out bidding war for his services would ensue.
Major record labels, including ... ...with a definitive purpose: to get rich or die trying. Tirades of hip-hop musicians have boasted of doing it, still not many of these have been shot nine times. Nor is it likely that they had a mother ply her trade as a drug dealer, even though a couple have probably sold drugs themselves. Curtis Jackson, as 50 Cent is otherwise known, undoubtedly had a tough childhood surviving in the ghetto. He is currently dealing with the courts over a weapons ...

Advantages: Great beats, good lyrics, good vocals, great tracks. Disadvantages: Not completly original.
...patiently waiting to blow and get his chance to shine. The beat speeds up on Eminem's verse with a hospital life machine beeping in the background. It’s Eminem so the lyrics are as usual, amazing. He sounds dark and real and a great addition to the track.
Track 4 is one of the best on the album 'many men' (wish death) has a mellow piano based beat which again matches the vocals very well. The hook is very catchy 'many men, many many many men, wish ... ...included.
You can currently get this on CD everywhere and 12’’ in the major music outlets. The CD cost me £11.99 but can be found at many prices from £8.99 up to £16 depending on where you buy it.
Overall this is one of the most promising hip-hop artists to come out in a long time and being signed to Shady/Aftermath certainly wont do his bank any harm. Buy this album if you are a hip-hop fan it is a must even if you think its commercial, it really ...
