'GhostRider' is based on Marvel character Johnny Blaze, who gives up his soul in order to save his father, and becomes a hell blazing vigilante by night whose purpose it is to hunt down evil and dispatch it back to hell.
In order to avoid confusion, Marvel Comics 'GhostRider' is now called 'The Phantom Rider', and the character in the comics is simply a regular human who wears a white costume and rides a white painted horse.

Plot
Stunt motor-biker, Johnny Blaze (played by Nicolas Cage) sells his sole to the devil in an attempt to save his terminally ill father?s life (he's dying of cancer).
The devil however deceives Johnny, and although his father does infact make a recovery, he sadly dies the very next day when a stunt goes horribly wrong.
Shgortly after the death of his father, Johnny turns his back on the carnival, his friends and his girlfriend Roxanne (played by Eva Mendes) .
Years later we catch up with Johnny Blaze who is now a world famous ?dare devil? stunt man. Since selling his soul to the devil all those years again Johnny has discovered that he simply cannot die!
Mephistopheles (the devil ? played by Peter Fonda), turns up again as he promised he would and offers to release Johnny's soul if Johnny becomes the his ?GhostRider ...

When he finds out that his father has terminal cancer, Johnny Blaze makes a pact with the Mephistopheles (Peter Fonda) to give him his soul if he saves his father. Once he has his soul the devil saves Blaze's father temporally as per the agreement but double crosses him and kills Barton Blaze in a motorcycle accident. Many years later Johnny (Nicholas Cage) is risking his life in madder stunts every week until one week the Mephistopheles calls in his debt. If Johnny accepts the offer the devil will release him from his curse, but only if he becomes the GhostRider and stops his evil son Blackheart from destroying the world.
