Bertam Pincus is a dentist. During an operation he "dies" for seven minutes but then comes back to life with the ability to see ghosts. You'd think that it would be pretty cool to see ghosts and be able to talk to them when no one else could see or talk to them. I'd read "quick" reviews about GhostTown in various magazine and although I had a rough idea of what the movie was about , it wasn't a movie that I was planning on going to see at the cinema. It wasn't until I watched an episode of Friday Night With Jonathon Ross a few weeks back, where Ricky Gervais was a guest and promoting his new film , that I decided I wanted to see this film. and less sarcastic side of Gervais in parts, too.
For the storyline, we follow Gervais's life as a very boring, very antisocial dentist, who absolutely hates everybody and doesn't care for anyone but himself. In the beginning, has to have a basic operation, however, after the op, lots of people start following him. He starts getting worried, and then when he finds out that all these people are ghosts, he heads back to the hospital to tell his doctor that he's having halucinations. Here the comedy starts kicking in, as we see the conversation between Gervais and his unsympathetic, difficult-to-talk to doctor who is more concerned about her tan. She reluctantly, but hiliariously, then informs Gervais that he died for seven minutes during his procedure.
Gervais then has his life turned around by ghosts wanting his help to settle unfinished ...
