Advantages: Some catchy numbers, Hysni Zela's vocals Disadvantages: Not all wedding music, not enough Hysni Zela, over-produced
-produced and lacks the pure joy and exuberance that you find with similar bands such as FanfareCiocarlia who do something quite similar. I also thought that synthesisers were over-used, perhaps in an attempt to emulate the very successful Balkan sounds that come from Serbia and Macedonia and that form the mainstay of the music charts in those countries; this type of music might be a niche market in the UK but in south-eastern Europe it dominates the popular music scene. This is music that would sound better live without the false sheen that has been added in the studio.
The sixteen tracks here are a competent collection that demonstrate excellent musicianship and provide some very memorable numbers. I really liked the idea of these musicians creating a tradition that never really existed in Albania and I appreciate that with Roland Shaqia at the helm ...
Advantages: A tropical paradise where you can set your own pace and do what you want to do. Disadvantages: The cost of the fast boat to the island.
With the Euro making a European holiday quite expensive these days and with flights around the world still being quite cheap, especially if you keep a good look out for the deals, my partner and i decided to travel to Lombok, in particular, three little islands off it's north-east coast. The Gili Islands, Gili Trawangan to be precise.
This started off with a flight to Singapore and then a conecting flight to Bali. Once there, the best and quickest way to get to the Gili islands is by fast boat, which takes a couple of hours door to door. Now this may sound like alot of traveling, and it is, so bear that in mind if you have young children. But each stage of the journey can be broken up, depending on how much time you have at your disposal.
We had two weeks in all, and we split up the journey by staying two nights in Bali on the way ...

Disadvantages: Too many plot strands early on
One of the first fantasy trilogies I ever read was R. A. Salvatore's "Forgotten Realms: Icewind Dale" trilogy, featuring the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. All this time later and Salvatore is still writing novels with fighting high on the agenda and I find that I can still enjoy them, although not quite as much as I did in my younger years.
