Album Notes: Personnel includes: Glen Campbell (vocals); Brent Rowan (guitar); The Belmont University Choir. A GLEN CAMPBELL CHRISTMAS was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album. Country legend Glen Campbell has recorded Christmas albums in the past, but A GLEN CAMPBELL CHRISTMAS marks the first time he's recorded an entire holiday album of standards--Christmas's greatest hits, if you will. The CD's 11 tracks include all the biggies: "The First Noel," "Away in a Manger," "Joy to the World," "Silent Night," and the like. But be warned: if your idea of a Christmas song is "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" or "Jingle Bells," this isn't the CD for you. Without exception, these songs focus on the religious aspects of Christmas. Campbell's warm, mellow voice is well suited to the material and, with a few exceptions, he resists the tendency many vocalists have to oversing these songs. Even the Belmont University Choir, which joins Campbell on many of the tracks, is fairly unobstrusive, and never overpowers his voice. A GLEN CAMPBELL CHRISTMAS is no groundbreaking work of art, but if your holiday deteriorates into one big blur of greed and over-commercialization, one spin of this CD will instantly remind you of the true reason for the season.
Advantages: great selection of artists and classics Disadvantages: one track a bit samey
...Ali Campbell's Running Free is a great mixture of songs featuring some equally as talented artists. What a brilliant CD to be given.
"' Why this CD?'"
I have been a big fan of UB40 since the age of 14yr and own some of their orginal albums on vinyl. For those too young to remember - those black things that came in 2 sizes 45" and 33" and when put onto a turn table played crackling, sorry cracking, sounds.
I was given this Album by one of my daughters who (due to being weened on the greatest Reggae bands of all time) is also a big fan.
We were both interested to see whether Ali's voice could be complimented by the featured artists as well as his fellow UB4O members.
'"Technical stuff'"
The CD has been produced & mixed by Ali, who also sings lead vocals on all tracks (plus much of the backing vocals)

Advantages: Particular highlights for me are 'Falling Slowly', 'Leave', 'Lies' and 'The Hill'. Disadvantages: Only track that i'm not crazy about is 'Fallen From The Sky'
...I first heard Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova on Jools Holland one evening. They performed 'Falling Slowly' from the film 'Once'. I've rarely been as touched by a piece of music as i was by that performance. The lyrics were simple but cut deep. The song really moved me and by the end of it i found there were tears running down my cheeks. After that, i went out and bought the album. I had to have it. All of the tracks are beautiful and they really spoke to me. They are full of emotion with beautiful melodies. Irglova has a particularly haunting quality to her voice. especially heard in the song 'The Hill'. Hansard has a rawness to his voice that makes the passion in the songs so real and so believable. I can hear his pain and his emotions and his music helps me make sense of mine. I recommended the album to my boyfriend and he donloaded...

Advantages: JINGLE BELLS ALL THE WAY Disadvantages: NOT SOMETHING I PLAY IN THE SUMMER
...INTRO
Why is it every Christmas I find myself getting a Frank Sinatra craze (am I the only one ?). Is it because Frank Sinatra is one of the best singers of all time or is it the fact I love to sing along with his catchy lyrics maybe so, but did you know that Frank Sinatra was once called quote: "The Voice" because there's never been a better voice for a microphone than his. As a big fan of Frank Sinatra I have more than a few of his CD's but there's only one that will always find its way to the top of the pile in my collection around this time of year, and that's the Frank Sinatra Christmas Album.
FRANK SINATRA
