Advantages: Fabulous Vocals Disadvantages: Much The Same
...Okay first off, I'm a fan, and, have been for 20 years, going back to the Pyrommania era, so better than most I feel I can give an opinion for this album.
There are 3 standout tracks in my opinion:
Four Letter Word
Scar
Girl Like You
The rest, are not what you would call "filler", but, they strike me as going back to the older days of Def Leppard. What I mean is that they are trying to re-capture the glory days of Hysteria and Pyromania albums.
Whether this is intentional or not, only the band would know. They tried to move forward with the Slang album, but, met with apathy from the fans, integrating a more harder edged or "grunge" type sound to some songs.
Stick with what they know, appears to be the leps motto.
I've waited nearly a year to post this review, just to make sure that I was still listening to the album. I am, so...

Advantages: Encompasses most of their 3 decade career Disadvantages: Not enough early Deep Purple
...If you like deep purple then this will save you making a compilation. Full of timeless classics from many of their best selling albums with a few singles thrown in for good measure. Deep purple are comparible to Led Zeppelin in terms of being one of the first "supergroups".
Tracks include Highway Star, smoke on the water, Burn, Speed king and more recent tracks such as Perfect strangers. There have been a few line-ups of Deep Purple, the most notable change was when Ian Gillan left and David Coverdale took his place. This album spans the whole of Deep Purple's 3 decades of music making - In 1974 Deep Purple with David Coverdale was the best selling band in America.
If you are really impressed by what you hear on this album, David coverdale sung with WHITESNAKE, Richie Blackmore played guitar and Roger Glover played bass guitar...

Advantages: Blackmores Happy Disadvantages: Too much like Rainbow,Joe lynn Turner
...So Gillan is sacked and Blackmore gets his way again.
I feel that this CD should have been a Blackmore solo album,it's just too much like Rainbow, especially with Joe Lynn Turner singing.
Nothing against Joe but he just dosen't cut it for me as a Deep Purple singer. The songs are good but just not as a Purple release.
Released in 1990 at the height of the rock revival, it seems to be written to try to get a hit single.Love Conquers All and its video is a prime example. The rest of the songs are just standard rock.
It is a reflection on this album that Gillan was back for the follow up album
Don't get me wrong i do like this CD but .the spark had gone...
