Advantages: Disadvantages:
...Paul Weller is one of those musicians who has survived the torments of Big Fame and come through the other side. Older, more mellow, he is now becoming one of a growing band of mature, bluesy singer songwriters who just might go the distance.
I love this album. It shows rich talent and musicianship, betraying Paul Weller's enormous range and experience. It shows that you don't need to stomp and smash things to create powerful, entertaining music. This is an album by an icon coming into his main power.

..."Is This Desire" is an extremely short record. This is nothing other than a good thing, because if it was any longer, it might just fall into the category marked "entirely unlistenable".
It's a painful record to listen to, tortured and tormented, telling the stories of lost souls. Industrial noises, heavy beats and singing which is nearly the wrong side of screaming make for uncomfortable listening. But this is an excellent album - file under "difficult listening". "The Sky Lit Up" is tortured, "My Beautiful Leah" grinds with menace, and "A Perfect Day, Elise" is actually rather melodic.
You won't be listening to this one every day, but it's as expressive as an album comes. Not one to buy for the Steps fan in your life....
