Advantages: Some great tunes, nice vocals Disadvantages: too short at only ten tracks
MANIC STREET PREACHERS - GOLD AGAINST THE SOUL
-----------------------------------------------
Well Im sure most readers will have heard of the Manic Street Preachers, the band has had a fair few top ten singles and albums over the last few years, with singles such as 'A Design for life' and 'Everything must go'
The four Members of the band were all born in a small mining town in Wales, this is where all of there working class political leanings ... ...Track Ten - Gold against the soul.
----------------------------------- This the title track on the album could have been a lot better, it is very well played and has a nice riff holding the tune together, but in the end its just a bit boring and doesn't offer anything new to the cause.
The song is one of the more political based songs on the album, and is about not trusting the conservative party.
This would have probably been a much better song ...

Advantages: Quality songwriting, inspired words Disadvantages: Certainly not original
...labels in the world. Gold Against The Soul has never been regarded with much fondness by anyone, including the band, but excluding me.
I bought my copy in 1996, after Everything Must Go and The Holy Bible (I bought all four at the time in reverse chronological order). When I first listened to The Holy Bible I hated it, but this album’s commercial viewpoint makes it very accessible in a mainstream rock sound. It doesn’t sound like their ... ...are so in control”.
Gold Against The Soul is a superb song technically with some great guitar work from James and the drums give the song a thumping heartbeat. This track is a sort of proto Design For Life in lyrical content. It is basically a song about the working classes, the Manics being one of the few self-proclaimed working class heroes to actually be working class. This is a sincere track with real significance for not just the band, ...

...clearly easier to get into Gold Against the Soul than the others, just as above it does not have the complicated lyrics and depressant feel. It could be criticised as too commercial and against what they as a band are singing out about. This has a much more mainstream rock sound to it, although still has some top quality lyrics and lovely moments. The guitars are excellent, especially on some tracks and they can actually sing a bit. There are only ... ...else but me’
10 Gold Against the Soul – The albums title track is the last to come up on the album, and like the one before this does very little to me. A bit of a disappointing end to the album, as well as only having ten tracks. More politics creep into this song speaking out against the conservative party and trying to speak for the working classes. A good strong guitar riff does not pick the song up and drowns the vocals too much.

Advantages: good album Disadvantages: not long enough
This is the second full length release from Wales finest band (worlds finest even!!)released in 1993. This album is totally different from the previous release Generation Terrorists. Generation Terrorists had a nice bright pink cover whicle this one uses dark shades of browny, bronzy colour with a disturbing picture of a multilimbed woman with roses instead of where her head should be.
Where the last album when for a larger quantity of songs and ... ...richies mind(not as much as The Holy Bible mind you). The songs are also more about social issues such as the song about a war veteren. The tracks number 10 in total but its quality not quantity what makes a record good
The album starts of with the track sleepflower which is song about someone suffering from insomnia. This person is really about richey himself as he couldent sleep and needed to get drunk on vodka every night to sleep. The intensity ...

...it slowly. 10. Gold Against the Soul. The title track is last up, with a slower and acoustic trip that serves up a mellow side to the album. Again the political edge to the lyrics add something that most bands could not manage to stir up, but the song lacks any real pace or a stand out moment. It is a fairly bland end to the album. Easy to listen through, but unspectacular which is a bit of a let down. This album probably does not deserve to be just ...

MANICSTREETPREACHERS - THE HOLY BIBLE
---------------------------------------
So my previous review was about the ManicStreetPreacher's second album, goldagainst the soul, so I thought what better a time to tackle their next album, 1994's The Holy Bible.
Most people will be familiar with the band due to a number of chart topping singles released over the last few years, the problem is that these don't really show how good this band was in the earlier days, so im going to review the album that really shows what the Manics were about.
The four members of the band grew up close to each other in a small mining town in Wales
The band all had a love of rock music, especially groups like 'The Clash' and 'Guns and Roses', they were also very intelligent and interested in politics etc.
The band formed in the late 1980's ...
Advantages: Good song line up. Great for dedicated fans. Disadvantages: Not as good as previous albums.
This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours by the ManicStreetPreachers is their latest contribution to the world of rock music. The style of tracks are varied. There are a few rocky numbers such as If You Tolerate This Then Your Children will Be Next, You stole the Sun From My Heart, Tsunami and Nobody Loved you. Apart from this, most of the tracks are quite mellow sounding but the quality is the same as it always has been for the Manics. Astounding. One of the most powerful tracks on the album has to be The Everlasting. Here the Manics make great use of their instruments and great lyrics to produce a song that fills you with emotion. I would recomend this album to any ManicStreetPreacher's fan, but not to any first time listeners out there. For them I would recomend GoldAgainst The Soul or The Holy Bible. ...

Album Notes
Manic Street Preachers: James Dean Bradfield (vocals, guitars); Richey James (guitar, background vocals); Nicky Wire (bass, background vocals); Sean Moore (drums, percussion, programming, background vocals). Additional personnel: Ian Kewley, Dave Eringa (piano, Hammond organ); Shovel (percusion). Recorded between January and March 1993. A band who can be as heavy as Metallica and as poppy as Simple Minds is no mean feat. The Manics fit the bill, with James Bradfield's stretched tonsils never having to resort to a scream to fill in for some words, such as "wooooahhhh" or "yeahhhhhhhh". Bradfield never wastes a second, because he has a lot to say, and that is what makes the Manics a bit different from the pack; their lyrics are bitingly good, even the ones shrouded in mystery; at least they are interesting. Particular attention can be paid to "Life Becomes A Landslide" and the observant title track.
