...I think I first heard this CD when I borrowed it from my local library. The only tune I'd heard was Take 5 (actually a Paul Desmond composition) Listening to the CD was something of a revelation for me. It was as though I had finally discovered the kind of jazz music I'd been looking for for ages. Not overly technical in a "look how good I am with my 10 minute self congratulatory solo" kind of way, which I tire of very quickly. Brubeck & Co are very tuneful and very understated in their approach, yet remain very technically good. I like clever jazz and clever melodies, and that's what this is. This cd has a nice little collection of songs from various albums, including a few from their album 'Time Out' which uses untypical time signatures like 3/4 and 5/8 (take 5) and 7/8 etc. It also has the wonderful track called "I'm in a dancing... ...Songs known all over the world!Songs heard by everybody on this planet! This is an extraordinary journey throughout the music with Dave Brubeck and his quartet.. Classics such as Take Five,Weep No More,Take The A Train,Summer Song and so on and so on..We remember Ella performing so much of his music.A great talent such as Dave Brubeck gave us a feeling of an astonishment from the life,a wish to create more,a wish to be more,perception of the beautiful.. It brings you back to the sound of the 60`s with it`s acoustic guitar,the grand piano,the live double bass and the drums` performance. Advantages: SImply Brilliant music

...Some people say that jazz is either a thing you love or hate, personally I fall into the first category. I am a huge fan, and this particular album was the first I ever bought, so I thought it should get a special mention on Ciao! When I was sixteen I was playing the saxophone in a local band and working in a restaurant. One night while I was working 'take five' began playing and I just fell in love with Dave Brubeck. This was five years ago but I am still in awe of the sheer brilliance of the music upon this CD. I would highly recommend this as a great starter CD for anyone who likes jazz. It is an extremely easy listen, with a number of tracks that you might recognise. Dave Brubeck was a pioneer of jazz, mainly in terms of his methods of changing time.
