Gold was a CD i stumbled across ages after its original release in September 2001. It was the follow up to the very successful debut "Heartbreaker". This CD contains Adam's move into the mainstream music after his debut and Whiskeytown work being predominantly county. The lead single "New York, New York" has been seen in the U.S as a memorable song as the video was filmed in front of the twin towers four days before the infamous attacks on the city. ... ...are some which stand out in my opinion such as "The rescue blues" which featured in the hit movie "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Harder now it's over", an emotional and heartfelt song about a relationship gone wrong. The only song that is not really good enough is "Wild Flowers" which seems to have been written in a hurry. This album is the Ryan Adams CD that hits the masses, there is something there for everyone, hence the amount of copies that it has ...

...From the brilliant New York, New York to the sublime Answering Bell, this is an album packed with songs that could only have been written by a genius!! Adams has got to be considered one of the best singer songwriters of his generation, if not all time. His songs drag you from a place up high, down to almost wanting to cry at the sincerity and torture in his voice, and then back up again. And thats all in one song!
If you are familiar with other Adams work then this album will only serve to increase your love for his songwriting ability, and there should not be a hole in your collection where this album should be.
If you've never heard RyanAdams before then this is the place to start your collection.
Gold is still probably Adams' best work and although he never really receives the credit he is due, one listen to this album will have...

Advantages: Talented songwriter with skills and a great voice Disadvantages: Bit long?
...This is one of those albums that twines itself around your life until you can't separate events from music. At least, it was that way for me because I couldn't stop listening to it for a month. The sweet melodies drove me into a state of melancholy which was kind of addictive. When somebody writes so much from his heart, your own can't help but resonate with it.
Ok, lets get some actual information out there. RyanAdams is an alt-country bad boy from North Carolina. Or at least he used to be. Now he really can't make up his mind what he is. His music vears from the sparse folkiness of 'Heartbreaker', to the distorted guitars of 'Rock n Roll', back into the dark country of 'Cold Roses'. This tends to frustrate fans who fall in love with just one of his sounds. Personally, I think its great that he's still experimenting. 'Gold' happens...

Advantages: beautiful and emotional songs Disadvantages: none
...RyanAdams would probably have no problem with me describing him as "the bastard son of Gram Parsons". Not only does the whole alt-country scene owe a great debt to the country rock pioneers of those days, but Adams seems to be living the same troubled life that led parsons to death at such a young age. Starting in punk bands, as anyone of a similar age seems to have done, he first found recognition with Whiskeytown, a raw aged country-rock hybrid that suffered from an ever-changing line up due to Adams own difficult nature. It was probably obvious to all concerned that Adams would find a better place as a solo musician, reducing the need for diplomacy and compromise that have never been his strong point, but which are skills that are required to hold a band together.
In 2000 his first solo album Heartbreaker was recorded...
