... Critics loved the album though sales were low, but it was not long before this prolific artist returned with another set of songs and 2001's Gold proved to be not only his best selling album to date but opens with the song that he is probably best known for.

"New York, New York" is one of those lucky breaks for all the wrong reasons. Don't get me wrong it's a cracking song and deserves the status that it obtained; from the moment that the up tempo rhythms of a lone acoustic guitar kick in closely followed by single emphasising power chords and funky percussive ... ...time the full drum kit is driving the song along and Adams is narrating this bittersweet love affair with his adopted home, you will be dancing around uncontrollably. A Hammond organ gives it that slightly fashionable retro sound, but its fresh tempo and clean spacey style places it very much in the twenty first century. Like I say, a great song, but it was the video that did all of the work. On the 9th of September Adams recorded a simple one-man ...

Advantages: Talented songwriter with skills and a great voice Disadvantages: Bit long?
This is one of those albums that twines itself around your life until you can't separate events from music. At least, it was that way for me because I couldn't stop listening to it for a month. The sweet melodies drove me into a state of melancholy which was kind of addictive. When somebody writes so much from his heart, your own can't help but resonate with it. Ok, lets get some actual information out there. Ryan Adams is an alt-country bad boy ... ...Now he really can't make up his mind what he is. His music vears from the sparse folkiness of 'Heartbreaker', to the distorted guitars of 'Rock n Roll', back into the dark country of 'Cold Roses'. This tends to frustrate fans who fall in love with just one of his sounds. Personally, I think its great that he's still experimenting. 'Gold' happens to be my favourite of all his albums.
Adams describes it as him trying to recreate an oldies station ...

Advantages: Appeals to all people Disadvantages: A move from is country roots
...Gold was a CD i stumbled across ages after its original release in September 2001. It was the follow up to the very successful debut "Heartbreaker". This CD contains Adam's move into the mainstream music after his debut and Whiskeytown work being predominantly county.
The lead single "New York, New York" has been seen in the U.S as a memorable song as the video was filmed in front of the twin towers four days before the infamous attacks on the city. The other songs on the album are good and there are some which stand out in my opinion such as "The rescue blues" which featured in the hit movie "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Harder now it's over", an emotional and heartfelt song about a relationship gone wrong. The only song that is not really good enough is "Wild Flowers" which seems to have been written in a hurry.

Advantages: Versatility, Musicianship, Achingly good vocals Disadvantages: Not for teens on the whole
...We all know that the music business perpetuates itself through HYPE, be it in the teenage girlieboy-fest that is Smash Hits or the ‘serious music lovers’ guides like Q and Mojo. Every year a new genius is proclaimed, every month one album is branded an instant classic.
And last year’s hype for the grown up serious music lover was RyanAdams and his second album, ‘Gold’. Almost every music magazine and arts review I read in December 2001 had ‘Gold’ as its No. 1 Album of the Year.
The Man
=
RyanAdams is an American who’s been around for a while making his own distinctive rockish, bluesish, countryish mark first with the band Whiskeytown and then as a solo artist. His first album, ‘Heartbreakers’, sold well in the US, but it’s with ‘Gold’...
