theGoldDVD provides further evidence that such an assertion is almost certainly true. Since crashing into the Top 20 towards the end of 1997 with the line-dancing inspired "5,6,7,8" (the "in" craze at the time) the group have been constantly churning out top-notch tunes. Their videos have been as equally colourful, energetic and fun (apart from the video to "When I Said Goodbye" which was shot in black and white). With their carefully choreographed dance moves, flashy locations and outrageous hairstyles and outfits, the videos have always been a top priority for the group. This collection ranges from the video for their more recent cover of "Chain Reaction" deceptively filmed in one continuous take, to the beach fun of "5,6,7,8" and are excellently matched to the style of each song. Admittedly some of the videos are rather cheesy, such as "Say You'll Be Mine", which is a pastiche of the group re-enacting scenes from recent Hollywood blockbusters, and the sleigh ride scene in "Heartbeat" (also the "bad hair" era for the female members of Steps). However the videos work best when a soap opera-style narrative is introduced, as with their flat-sitting escapades in the "Stomp" video, and the "Four Weddings and a Funeral" inspired video for their first number one single "Tragedy".On the DVD:This DVD is truly excellent value--literally bursting with extras, from a greatest-hits video medley, through to the single/album-cover interactive library. One member of the band concisely introduces each video, and there is an audio commentary by the group on selected videos (for "5,6,7,8", "Heartbeat", "Tragedy" andDeeper Shade f Blue) and bonus material includes the group performing "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" on ITV's "Motown Mania". The CD-ROM option allows even more extras, such as additional footage (look out for, and click on the Steps logo that appears on selected videos) and web-links. The disc also contains the software "PC Friendly DVD" making it even easier and fun to play the DVD on your home computer. However this collection has an annoying aspect; the numerous menus you need to pass through to access each of the videos individually. There are also no interactive options to guide you through the legendary dance moves --John Galilee

Good as Gold Review ofGold - The Greatest Hits - Stepsby
Iggglybufff
Advantages: A big album with lots of hits Disadvantages: Steps split up so this will be the last album
Steps, with their album called 'Gold Greatest Hits' bring you a collection of their very best songs. The CD has 20 songs and most certainly worth a buy if you are a Steps fan. The CD booklet inside the case has the words to the songs so you can sing along to all the songs, including Steps’ No.1 hit Chain Reaction!
So, in this review, you will find information about each and every one of those songs.
Enjoy!

... ...energetic song for all you partiers out there. This is one of Steps' first songs, so you should all know the words by now. This is one of their longest songs that they did. Recorded in 1998, this song lasts for 4 mins 30 secs. My rating: 90%

2) ONE FOR SORROW.
A slow and gentle song to begin with, then it fastens up, with more accompaniment and musical instruments. Again, one of their first ...

...the UK charts??
Steps Gold showcases 17 of Steps' biggest hits (with the glaring and shocking omission of the dancefloor stomper You'll Be Sorry) plus 3 brand new tracks, which I will now preview:
~ Words are not Enough ~ The fivesome's assault on the Christmas charts comes in the form of this almost acoustic sounding ballad. Acoustic? Steps? Well, obviously it also features synths and the usual catchy chorus, but this isn't like much else you've ... ...good sway-from-side-to-side 3 and a half minutes. See the £400,000 animated vid too. Went straight in at Number 5 on today's charts. ~ Baby Don't Dance ~ An intruiging blend of Voulez Vous by Abba and Don't Stop Movin' by S Club 7, this track is funky disco heaven in the mould of 2000 Number 1 "Stomp". Sees a single release in early 2002.
~ Only in my Dreams ~ Hmmmm, Abba lite, bland and rather annoying really. Sounds too much like a B side to be ...

Advantages: Pure pop guaranteed to put you in a fab mood Disadvantages: A less than credible addition to your CD collection
...stony faced. I like the gold design of the CD itself and the real bonus for me (karaoke diva that I am!) is that the inlay gives you all the words to the songs!
I LOVE this album and there is no question in my mind that they were the leaders of the pop genre. This album is perfect for getting ready to go out or to cheer you up when you're down and so what if it looks slightly out of place in my CD collection? My name is Katy and, yes, I am a Steps ...

Advantages: All The Major Hits Disadvantages: Three New Tracks Which Are All Very poor
...produce number one hits.
Gold boasts 20 tracks, 3 of which are new, so here is a rundown of what you will get on Gold:
~~ 1.Tragedy (Released 6th November 1998 , peaked at 1) ~~
An excellent remix of the old Bee Gee’s track, this modern version was huge and gave Steps their truly deserved first number 1, complete with wacky dance called the shampoo, it was a must for every Christmas party that year and remained popular long after.
~~2. ... ...Well that’s it, Gold is an excellent hits album if you like Steps, but I’m disappointed that You’ll Be Sorry is missing, as I think it is better than some of the included tracks.
The three new additions are also a bit of a let down, by no means prime examples of Steps, in fact more of a stocking filler than anything else, very poor indeed.
But It is worth buying and not bad value with 20 tracks on, and hopefully there will be ...

Advantages: Great music - good for singing and dancing too Disadvantages: none
...This is a selection of Steps' most popular songs - complete with all the lyrics in the CD booklet so you can sing along too. This album got to number one in the charts in 2001.
The Songs are as follows:
TRAGEDY - One of their first hits - recorded in 1998 and reached number 1 in the charts.
Fast song - good for dancing too
ONE FOR SORROW - One of the earlier hits - recorded in 1998 and reached number 2 in the charts. One of the slower songs - speeding up at the end. Much slower dance routine
STOMP - Recorded in 2000 and reached number 1 in the charts.
This is one of the fast dance tracks
BETTER BEST FORGOTTEN - One of the earlier hits again. Recorded in 1998 and reached number 2 in the charts.
Not as fast as Stomp but definitely more of a dance than ballad track.
LOVE'S GOT A HOLD ON MY HEART - Recorded in 1999...

Advantages: A pair of good songs! Disadvantages: Not got the video to Summer Of Love!
...and there’s not a cloud in the sky – so dance it’s the summer of love, tonight the fiesta will come one-hundred degrees in the shade of the trees….”
3 – Summer Of Love W.I.P remix – 6:38 – I have said before, remixes are not good. But This is one which I must contradict myself. The remix is good, even clubbier. It’s one of the first Steps remixes I have liked!
This Single I got from a market Car Boot for 20p. I am not sure about how avaliable it is since it was release 2000/2001. Surely if you want it, look on Ebay or Amazon or similar sites.
To sum this up I would say that again it is necessity for a Steps fan, but if you buy Gold – Greatesthits then you won’t really miss out. If you get The Last Dance you can get the remix on disk 2. But still it is v. good!...
