Steps, with their album called 'Gold Greatest Hits' bring you a collection of their very best songs. The CD has 20 songs and most certainly worth a buy if you are a Steps fan.

The CD booklet inside the case has the words to the songs so you can sing along to all the songs, including Steps’ No.1 hit Chain Reaction!

So, in this review, you will find information about each and every one of those songs.

1) TRAGEDY.

This is quite a bright and energetic song for all you partiers out there. This is one of Steps' first songs, so you should all know the words by now. This is one of their longest songs that they did. Recorded in 1998, this song lasts for 4 mins 30 secs. My rating: 90%

2) ONE FOR SORROW.

A slow and gentle song to begin with, then it fastens up, with more accompaniment and musical instruments. Again, one of their first songs and it is reasonably long. Recorded in 1998, the song lasts for 4 mins 21 secs. My rating: 88%

3) STOMP.

A fast song, which is one of my favourite songs of all time. Stomp is well worked out, and the words are easy to remember, once you know them. A great song to sing and dance along to. It was recorded in 2000, and lasts for 3 mins 21 secs. My rating: 99%

4) BETTER BEST FORGOTTEN.

This is quite a complicated song to sing in the verses, but in the chorus it's perfect! A good song to hum to. As usual, it is fast and 'bouncy'. (I'm starting to think that Steps like fun and fast songs!) Better Best Forgotten was recorded in 1998 and lasts for 3mins 42 secs. My rating: 92%

5) LOVE'S GOT A HOLD ON MY HEART.

A slightly newer song from Steps. Has some solo's from the members of Steps in it. Some high soprano notes in there. Better to leave them out if you are going to attempt singing this song. Recorded in 1999, this song lasts for 3 mins 19 secs, and my rating is 96%

6) DEEPER SHADE OF BLUE.

The song starts off suddenly with the chorus, made for you to join in. A nice chorus with easy words to sing and pronounce. This song is also one of my favourites on this CD. The song was recorded in 1999 and lasts for 3 mins 44 secs. My rating: 98%

7) LAST THING ON MY MIND.

Featured in others of Steps' albums, this track brings back memories from a holiday I went to a few years ago. It's one of those songs that keep in your head and when you hear it, it reminds you of something. It was recorded in 1998, with a track time of 3 mins 04 secs. My rating: 92%

8) BETTER THAN THE DEVIL YOU KNOW.

Starts off with a nice tune, then song. From the title of this song, you would think it was probably a slower song. Well, let me tell you something: It's totally the opposite. Recorded in 1999, this song's track time is 3 mins 48 secs. My rating: 94%

9) SUMMER OF LOVE.

Starts off in a slow beat, but then brightens up to a fast beat. A brilliant song to dance along to. Has a Spanish feel to it. Recorded in 2000. Track time is 3 mins 21 secs. My rating: 86%

10) 5,6,7,8.

This is really one of, if not the first song that Steps sung. As a middle-of-the-album-song this is a fast song which lasts for a decent amount of time; 3 mins 21 secs. Recorded in 1997. My rating: 91%

11) CHAIN REACTION.

You CANNOT buy this album by not listening to this song. It's the best. Definitely my favourite. Starts off in medium pace, and then it really gets super! Guess what! My rating is 100%. Recorded last year (2001) and lasts for 3 mins 55 secs.

12) BABY DON'T DANCE.

This is also one of my favourite songs. Has a nice rhythm and a good selection of words. Not much more to say about this song, except one thing: It is a great song. Also recorded last year (which is also 2001!) and lasts for 3 mins 50 secs. My rating for this song is: 97%

13) IT'S THE WAY YOU FEEL.

A good song with a medium and steady pace. A lot of words repeated and in some cases like these, that is a good thing. This song was recorded in 2000. It lasts for 3 mins 16 secs. My rating for this song is 98%

14) AFTER THE LOVE HAS GONE.

Another of Steps' longer songs. It has a slow start with a flowing rhythm. Then the words and singing gets more powerful for the chorus. The song lasts for 4 mins 34 secs, and was recorded in 1999. My rating is: 84%. (Not my type of song.)

15) HERE AND NOW.

Starts off suddenly with a strong intro. Then more accompaniments come into the song, to make the verses soft, but the chorus strong. Recorded in 2000, it lasts for 3 mins 26 secs. My rating is 91%

16) SAY YOU'LL BE MINE.

Starts with instrumental accompaniment shortly joined by some vocal accompaniment. Sadly, this is one of Steps' older songs that isn't well known or isn't a favourite song as much as the other songs by Steps. Recorded in 1999. Lasts for 3 mins 31 secs. My rating: 78%

17) ONLY IN MY DREAMS.

As do quite a few songs, of various artists, this song starts off with the title being sung. If you don't know what I mean (even after hours of explaining) then I suggest you buy the CD to find out. Otherwise, this new song recorded in 2001 has no complicated factors. My rating is 84%, and the song lasts for 4 mins 16 secs.

18) WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH.

At the beginning it is a really slow and peaceful song. Whatever you like to call it. Then it lightens up, but still stays quiet and a peaceful rhythm. Recorded in 2001 (again) this song lasts for 3 mins 23 secs. My rating is 75%. (Too slow for me.)

19) WHEN I SAID GOODBYE.

A flowing style to this song, starting as if it started in the middle of the song - no intro or nothing. Flows through the song very gently indeed, with no powerful singing more than already. Recorded in 1999. My rating: 73%. Lasts for: 3 mins 32 secs.

20) HEARTBEAT.

Now, for the last song on this album... The famous... Heartbeat. A song that changes from slow to faster, softer to powerful singing. An excellent song to sing to, with a good rhythm. This song has been around for a while now, since 1998. My rating is 97%. Lasts for 4 mins and 23 secs.

I think this is the best album Steps have done. It is very good value for money because most CDs only have about 10 or 12 songs on them, and this one has 20! (I think it costs about £15).

Everyone, whatever age, can enjoy this album, but younger people will probably enjoy it more because most of it is pop music for dancing and singing along to.
