This is the album that introduced me to Marilyn Manson and i can still remember the feeling that it gave me when i first listened to it. I had heard nothing like it before, the driving force of the music and lyrics combined entranced me for an hour. From This Is The New *hit, a brilliant techno, thrash triumph that builds throughout the verses to a crashing empowering chorus to mOBSCENE, the lead single from the album with its disco thumping rock beats. Doll Dagga Buzz Buzz Ziggety Zag brings us a swing inspired 4 minute rock romp whilst the next track Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth is an angry fist throwing in the air inducing stomp!
The Golden Age of Grotesque takes it's place next in the tracklisting next with it's incredibly odd music style which includes a burning piano being played by manson himself. The controversial (s)AINT is probably my least favourite song on the album but if you watch the video for it then you'll understand why it has become controversial. Kaboom Kaboom is a cheesy but very heavy rock song followed by slutgarden with it's techno/thrash theme much similar to This Is The New *hit.
Next up is spade with it's dark, lingering music that crashes into a big chorus about mr mansons feelings of being betrayed by a certain rose mcgowan, a very personal song. Then we have one of my favourite songs on the album Paranoir, which keeps building and building all the way through untill the screaming head pounding finale which will definately leave its mark on you. The next three tracks are the last three, The Bright Young Things, Better Of Two Evils and Vodevil which sound similar but never let up in making you listen to what they have to say.
To sum up, this is album is beyond brilliant. In fact, brilliant isn't a good enough word to describe it. If you are looking to buy a Marilyn Manson album then buy this one because it's better than the greatest hits. This album has kept me entertained for 4 years now and it still sounds as fresh as the day it was bought and you discover something new every time you listen. Two final words. Buy It! 10/10
