BLUES AT ITS BEST Review ofEric Clapton & B.B.King - Riding with the Kingby
Algenon
Advantages: Blues at its best Disadvantages: Dated for young audience
...Being an old blues buff my current lady bought me this CD as a present. It is a golden addition to my collection which has many titles by these maestros of melancholy guitar.
There are many re-makes of classic blues numbers that either artist has recorded. The CD culminates with a rendering of Come rain or Come Shine which seems to cement the friendship of these old masters.
Across each track Clapton shines with a white man guitar style that contains more notes than the Bank of England. King is King, and his style is typical B.B.Blues.
Both artists have voices that seem to have rounded with time, and mellowed with the years.
If you are a fan this CD will give great pleasure. If you are new to the blues or either of these fine musicians, then you will hear what can be acheived by decades of practise, and a spot of genius....

Advantages: Of many greatest hits of albums for Roxy this is the best Disadvantages: None

Original drummer PaulThompson was replaced by Andy Newmark and the bands sound evolved into smoother slower tempo of tracks like ‘Oh Yeah’ ‘Dance Away’ and Over You’. Now under the mixing/production of Bob Clearmountain the band then had slipped further into solo Ferry territory by 1982 on tracks like ‘More Than This’ , ‘Avalon’ and ‘...

Advantages: All the band's best known songs. Disadvantages: One poor track and lack of inlay content.
...to 'Golden Brown', their biggest hit, perhaps 'La Folie' or a 'foolish' release indeed on their part!). It might have been better replaced on this album with another of their single releases, or omitted entirely.
One note on the album's inlay content. Basically this is none-existant, which for a 'best of' album is unusual, since there is nearly always a history and comment included. I think when this album was re-mastered and released on CD, a foreword by a band or record company associate might have been a useful addition.
In essence this is probably an essential purchase for anyone with as much as a passing interest in the music of The Stranglers. If you weren't so taken with them at the time, or think that you are not aware of much of their music, take a listen to this and you'll probably be suprised by how good the tracks now sound...
