Advantages: Plenty of energy and enthusiasm Disadvantages: Heard it all before and done a lot better
...‘The Catheters’ is probably one of the worst names for a band you could imagine and a real minefield for anyone reviewing the band‘s second album ‘Static Delusions and Stone Still Days’. I mean the potential for jokes is endless, and the result could be a real ‘piss take’ review that sinks to all new lows. Needless to say I will side step these land mines with aplomb and rise above any temptation to garner cheap laughs from such an obvious source.
Released on Seattle’s ’Sub Pop’, a label that has strived to shake off its Nirvana connections since the mid nineties without much success, ‘The Catheters’ second album does little to alleviate their problem. ’Static Delusions and Stone Still Days’ is a throwback in the most middle-of-the-road of ways. It has energy by the bag full, plenty of thrash and a fair sprinkling of rumbling bass...

...canon.
For a while, it doesn't look like the album is going to be able to keep that form up. "Jambi" does sport a very nice, talk-box aided guitar solo, which serves as proof that while Adam Jones is by no means the best guitarist in the world, he remains greatly overlooked by a lot of people. But, for a song that stands at 7 and a half minutes, you expect a little more interest, especially from a band like Tool, who've managed better than this over 13 minutes before. For pretty much the whole song, it's just basic chugga-chugga hard rock. Tool still do that sort of thing better than anyone else, but that doesn't stop it being a little underwhelming, especially when Maynard fluffs a golden opportunity to stamp a truly great melody over the song by repeating a handful of strained notes over and over.

Advantages: Beautiful edgy songs. Can pick it up quite cheaply. Disadvantages: Not for listening to if you are depressed.
...the different parts, then turn those vocal melodies into guitar and keyboard lines. Owen Hopkins has been there almost from the start and co-founded the band and was there for much of the recording. When Davey had to kick out a housemate for constantly stealing all the milk, they got lucky in the form of a bassist from Zimbabwe, Joseph Udwin, who moved in.

"Who knows what goes on in her pretty little head?"
Apparently this track came to Macmanus so easily it might have been a dream. A little slow starting, with a long piano intro which gives way to guitars and percussion before Manmanus lets rip with brilliant lyrics. Apparently written about when he worked in London Parks and would see twelve year old girls drunk in the toilets at 2pm on a school day.
