Album Reviews: JazzTimes (11/03, p.99) - \"THE GOLDEN STRIKER is chamber jazz of a high order....The musicianship in this trio is so refined and the sharing of ideas so selfless that the transitions from the predetermined to the collectively discovered to the individual statement are seamless.\"
Advantages: Mainstream Album, Cover Is Cool Yet Weird Disadvantages: Lyrically Weaker Than Previous Efforts
...Lil' Wayne. Arguably the best rapper alive. This album was supposed to prove this point. If you are a hardcore Lil' Wayne fan i can't help but say you will disappointed by his latest effort in terms of lyrics you will prefer the carter II but in terms of overall ability, concepts and bars this is an amazing overall effort. The album opens with "3 Peat" which is not as fiery as an intro should be but the lyrics are hardcore. You get a mixture of songs on this album, but I believe his previous mixtape "Da Drought III" was a better overall effort. But if you are new to Lil' Wayne you will be amazed by such an album. You get an insight into soul through "Tie My Hands" with the legendary Robin Thicke a song which delves deeper into the real Lil Wayne. Advantages: Some fun, catchy tracks, he co-wrote some of the tracks Disadvantages: Some tracks are a bit weak and unmemorable
...*Please note:-* I'm not sure that I can really think of much to say for this album compared to the group albums but I wanted to give it a shot and I may edit this review later, if I think of more to add but for now, here's what I've come up with:-

Advantages: Hard hitting, fast, fun, and loud music. Disadvantages: 50 Foot Wave is not music that everyone will dig.
...and fun. Their first full length album is Golden Ocean.
The Album
The crew headed to LA to record Golden Ocean under the production of Ethan Allen (no, not that one, this one, Fun Fact #3). The album itself was recorded in the summer of 2004 and released earlier this year. All the members of the band share equal credit on songwriting, unusual but honorable in today's music industry.
I will tell you straight up that to really get into this album you must like raw, punky music with lots of energy. Golden Ocean is pure energy. 50 Foot Wave as a sound will not suit everyone's taste. The first run through the album you might find something that catches your ear and next thing you know you are listening to it over and over. Golden Ocean is infectious as athlete's foot in the YMCA shower. The energy and vibe put off by 50 Foot Wave...
