Gonna Make You Mine - Lou Christie

Advantages: Great lyrics, good music
Disadvantages: Some may find lyrics too pessimistic

...lost everything he had through the war and nobody wants to know. "Strawman" sounds as if its trying to make a grand statement. Reed's vocals sound pretty powerful here about a wall of sound as he sings an angry rant about how much is wasted by the rich. Some more good guitar here. The album finishes with "Dime Store Mystery". It may sound like an odd song, very downbeat, to finish such a collection, but again the answer is in the lyrics. It is a thoughtful conclusion, a song about balancing what you've done with your life as it ends. So did Lou Reed find religion? If so what religion? "I wish I hadn't thrown away my time on so much Human and so much less Divine" Of course there is another possible… this is just a "Dime Store Mystery" and our Lou is merely being cynical about the values they sell. Advantages: superb sound, superb performances
Disadvantages: a couple of songs drag a bit

...could easily accomodate Lou's changes of mood. Nowhere is the skill of band more apparent than on this album. The opening is a blast - Lou lights a cigarette and speaks directly to the listener. "Hello, sorry we were late, but we were just tuning" then the live recording kicks in with the rowdy and excitable audience at The Bottom Line in New York whooping and applauding Lou's every word. The Stereo Binaural recording deserves a mention. This short lived enhanced stereo recording method places the listener right in the centre of the action. You feel like the crowd ae all around you and when the band gets going you can hear everything, again all around your head. ...Say you'll be mine was released in December 1999 along with Better The Devil you know (a steps version of kylie minogues famous hit) I think it was the christmas 1999 number one if i remember right! Say you'll be mine is different to the usual steps sound but they still managed to sell thousands of copies and it was a well liked hit. In the video each member of steps plays a character out of a movie.For example H and Clair played Romeo and Juliet , and H and Lisa played Jack and Rose from Titanic. On the cover of the cd are the stepsters dressed up as the characters in which they play in the video. The cd-rom features the dance routine to say you'll be mine and the video. Each member of steps sing a line each on this song too which is a change because usually it's only the girls that sing! Lee actually sings for a change!... Read review
