Quite possibly the most moving gig I have ever been privileged enough to be at. And with my beautiful girlfriend beside me, it's hard to imagine how it could have been better. (Well apart from if I proposed that night...)

The Goo Goo Dolls have long since traded the bracing, Replacements-lite abandon of their ... more
early days for an ethos of heart-on-their-sleeve emotionality wed to a solid heartland pop craftsmanship that's too easily been casually mislabeled. Superstar producer Glen Ballard (who shares several writing credits here as well) pushes that latter sensibility to its logical extremes, ensuring a slick sonic experience that won't disappoint those who hitched themselves to the Dolls' wagon circa their mid '90s commercial breakthrough. But there remains a nagging sense that this is a band that isn't pushing itself very hard: even the hook-solid opening single "Stay With You" seems downright cautious. Coupled with Ballard's penchant for polish, Johnny Rzeznik's introspection on "Without You Here" hews close to the centre line before Robbie Takac's "Listen" gives the album a much-needed jolt of energy. The album's featured cover, a faithful, contemporary AOR-friendly take on Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit," is emblematic ofthe Goo Goo Dolls fortunes here: They often seemed boxed in by a past that's not necessarily their own.--Jerry McCulley

Advantages: Usual awesome vocals, strong, emotional lyrics Disadvantages: bit too loved up at bits
...starts off in the trademark goo goo dolls fashion, with emotive music fading in, and then the unmistakable vocal talent of Jonn Rzeznik starts with the song "stay with you". Nice way to start, setting the mood for the rest of the CD. It's, as always, a great hook, and no way did I want to be missing out on the rest of the contents of this one.

And right from the first track, as I said, you know that it is meant to pull slightly on the heart strings. Which it certainly does. I am unashamed to say that I shed a few tears earlier on while listening to the song "feel the silence".
With lyrics like "...you lie awake at night, with ... eyes that never cry...you remain a promise unfulfilled...", it's hard not to feel moved by it.

Quite possibly the most moving gig I have ever been privileged enough to be at. And with my beautiful girlfriend beside me, it's hard to imagine how it could have been better. (Well apart from if I proposed that night...)
This band have for the past few years been up there with my favourites in the rock ballad genre. And I'm sure most of you will have heard classics such as "iris", "dizzy", and "acoustic no 3" (dawsons creek theme).
So when I received this album, somewhat unexpectedly, in the post from a friend not too long after release, I was delighted! (Thanks Donna!)
It starts off in the trademark goo goo dolls fashion, with emotive music fading in, and then the unmistakable vocal talent of Jonn Rzeznik starts with the song "stay with you". Nice way to start, setting the mood for the rest of the CD. It's, as always, a great hook, and no way did I want to be missing out on the rest of the contents of this one.
The classic emotional combination of beautifully composed backing music, melodic guitars, and the smooth voice of Rzeznik, all make this an outstanding album.
Like the rest of the offerings so far from these guys, there is so much put into the lyrics especially, and also the anthemic piano, strings, and guitar sections to make for a really inspiring album. The words of the track after "feel the silence", on the song, "better days", illustrate this perfectly. Especially at this special time of the year.
"...you asked me what I want this year...I'll try to make it kind and clear... 'cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings, designer love and empty things, just a chance that maybe we'll find better days." No idea how it could be possible to really listen to that, and not be challenged.
"...that's faith and trust and peace while we're alive, and the one poor child who saved this world... "
I've tried in the past to ignore words like that, but failed. So hopefully this year will be different. And I might try a little harder to give something back.
Continuing the themes already put forward in the earlier songs on here, and i suppose following on from previous albums ("Dizzy up the Girl" and "Gutterflower."), the songs "listen" and "become", add to the amazingly moving, and inspiring, words.
In these, as you might imagine, the emphasis is on growing as a person, and learning from the experience, and wisdom of others. These songs are a nice starting point. I have to admit, that thanks in part to some of these songs, recently I have been changing my attitudes towards myself and others, in some ways. And I never knew how satisfying it could be to just stop trying so hard to please, and let go of some of the pressure I put on myself.
"Let love in", being as it is, a fantastic album, can be both eye-opening and challenging, somehow without any judgemental, or 'holier than thou' undertones. Impressively composed and organised, this album just gets better and better the more attention you give it. When you take a little time to reflect on any of the words, I have found, it really starts to hit home, and really move me to reconsider where my priorities really lie.
The only real drawbacks of this title, although not detracting too much from the overall experience, would probably be just how deep and meaningful most of the lyrics are. To some, it might hit a bit too close to home i suppose, and certainly did for me at times. But after looking (or listening maybe) beyond how emphatically the band put forward, in a remarkably sensitive manner, their views on love, and the human experience in general, I found that I really began to understand where they were coming from.
Advantages: Powerful rock ballads, great lyrics and vocals Disadvantages: Not too much new on offer
The Goo Goo Dolls have been around for years; hailing from Buffalo in the US, the guys are probably most famous in the UK for their song "Iris", which was on the soundtrack to City of Angels back in 1998. If you like "Iris", one of the more memorable and legendary love songs out there in my opinion, then you're guaranteed to enjoy this album.
There are 11 tracks on offer here, 9 sung by the lead singer Johnny Rzeznik , and 2 by the bassist Robby ... ...their music. Previous albums have notably used Robby in the faster songs for more effect, but on "Let Love In" there aren't really ANY higher tempo tracks to be seen, certainly not in comparison to say "Dizzy Up The Girl". This album is a fantastic example of how beautifully sung lyrics combine with perfect musical prowess to create moving and meaningful songs. The opening track, "Stay With You", is the extremely catchy second single to be take from ...

Advantages: Some beautiful songs Disadvantages: more balladic than I would like
As a Goo Goo Dolls fan who loves previous albums Dizzy Up the Girl and Gutterflower, I was expecting more great things from this most recent album.
Although the songs are not all of the same standard as Iris (few songs can be!) it is still well worth a listen and a great way to while away the cold winter months. I have not been disappointed.
I personally prefer some of the more rock inspired Goo-Goo Dolls songs which are not to be found on this ... ...great tracks to go at.
Among the highlights for me are Stay with You and Better Days which feature more of the beautiful lyrics that the Goo Goo Dolls are famous for.
I would highly recommend this album to anyone who has enjoyed their previous material - another good album. ...

Advantages: One or two catchy tunes Disadvantages: Nine or ten irritating ones
So why did I buy it firstly? No reason other than I love the GooGooDolls! The cover shot on the album is a bit Aerosmith meets Paris Hilton in all honesty and hardly screams "buy me I'm a unique original!" Yet having danced to their biggest hit "Iris" at my wedding and having sung Acoustic #3 more times in the bath than you really need to know, I bought the album purely because I was excited they'd made a new one.
The track titles are nothing special or out of the ordinary in comparison to their earlier work and fans of the band would be forgiven for wondering if this is actually a new album (but yes, these are all new tracks):
1. Stay With You
2. LetLoveIn
3. Feel the Silence
4. Better Days
5. Without You Here
6. Listen
7. Give a Little Bit
8. Can't Let it Go
9. We'll Be Here (When You're Gone)
10. Strange ...
If you are a fan of the GooGooDolls as I am this album will not disappoint you.
The track Listings are as follows -
1. Stay With you
2. LetLoveIn
3. Feel The Silence
4. Better Days
5. Without You Here
6. Listen
7. Give A Little Bit
8. Can't Let it go
9. We'll Be Here (When your Gone)
10. Strange Love
11. Become
12. Iris (Bonus Track)
All the songs have a very happy, feel good rhythm and tune to them. The lyrics are all very meaningfull and this CD is definetly very easy listening. Therefore, it does not require you to have a certain taste in music to enjoy this CD.
If you have purchased their previous albums you will know that Iris is a beautiful song and if you not purchased or heard this song it is included on the CD as a bonus Track so you will not be missing out!
Become is a really lovely song ...
Advantages: An album that you'll love all songs Disadvantages: People might hear you singing!
This album for me has now over-taken 'Dizzy Up The Girl' and has become my favorite GooGooDolls album. I was a little worried when I purchased the album as was not 70% keen on Gutterflower. However all the songs on this album i like and now sing along to (Im hoping that no one can hear me!). I saw the GooGooDolls performing live in Leeds this album and they were outstanding. The songs on this album are some of the best from the GooGooDolls. The album highlights include;
- LetLoveIn
- Feel the silence
- Cant let it go
If you like them, then this album is a must buy. GooGooDolls have come up with a winner with this one! ...
