Due to the controversial nature of this album, this review contains an opening section on the historical, musical and personal context into which the album appeared, and the effect it had when it did appear on the stunned fans of the day. This album comes in for some of the most bitter, and often unwarranted criticism of all of Dylan's great works, and as such I've assumed the responsibility of putting up a decent defense for what I believe to be one of Dylan's most revealing and compelling albums. ...been bitten by BobDylan's music you can never really walk away. Whilst in these days of heavy and clean production Dylan is extremely rough and thus can appear hard to get into it can and probably will happen if you are open minded about music. Though I'm only 18 and have no job or real income, I have managed to already purchase about three quarters of the entire BobDylan catalogue, which is a lot of albums! I've also seen the great man in concert; an experience that marked a whole turning point in my life such was the electric and genuinely magical atmosphere. Though I don't think I'd ever steal to feed my addiction to Dylan it is in many respects like a drug addiction. At times it's hard to explain exactly why you crave it so much but you struggle to live for long periods without it and just outright need to hear the music. And hearing...

...On Sunday 9th September 2001 there was a sudden outburst of excitement that rippled right the way through my house. A late discovered lottery win? Nope. It wasn't even excitement that Dusk Till Dawn was on that night. In fact the uproar was created when in amongst the ever irritating advertisements trying to convince you that you will be able to get loads of free sex by wearing their product irrelevant of your grotesquely ugly appearance came an advertisement for BobDylan's new album "Love And Theft" (WITH the quotation marks note). Accompanied by the first song of the new album Bob was seen involved in a cunning game of cards, the advert captured a wonderful sense of concept. "Love And Theft" was everywhere.
