Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad
I am going to review Rihanna's album by looking at each track and giving it a mark out of 5 in my opinion.
1. UMBRELLA FEAT JAY Z - 4.35 (5/5) This is a lovely breezy song, which starts off with Jay-Z rapping in her usual style. It is very r'n'b and catchy. Rihanna shows off her voice and she is a fantastic singer. The chorus is extremely catchy and you will be singing along in now time. Plus you will be tapping your foot along to the beat. The song is about always being there for someone even through the bad times.
2. PUSH UP ON ME - 3.15 (2/5) I am not very fond of this song as it is very busy and too much background music playing (which is very computerised). In fact I find the beat quite annoying. I skip this song often. It sounds like someone is flicking something. I don't like it at all. The song is about meeting a fella that she fancies while out dancing, she wishes that her wanted her.
3. DON'T STOP THE MUSIC - 4.27 (4/5) A dance song with a great beat to get you up dancing. It always reminds me of nights out. It is a pop song, which gets your attention, every time it is played, it really is a great song. It is about her not wanting the music to stop as she has met a man that she wants and they are dancing to the music.
4. BREAKIN' DISHES - 3.20 (3/5) An edgy song with an r'n'b vibe to it. The song sounds angry and the music makes you feel on edgy as it has high pitched beats. The chorus sounds like she is chanting really. It is about a man disappearing and messing her about so she is breaking dishes, as she is son angry.
5. SHUT UP AND DRIVE - 3.31 (5/5) This song starts off sounding like its going to be a rock 'n' roll song and then it goes to a pop song. The background music is the guitar playing which is catchy and gets you swaying and tapping your foot to the music. It's the type of song I relax to. I like the chorus, it's really the only words I know of the song 'Shut up and Drive'. The song is about the right man to driver her car.
6. HATE THAT I LOVE YOU FEAT NE-YO - 3.38 (4/5) A very slow relaxing love song. Rihanna gets to show off her amazing voice, which sounds smooth and compliments Ne Yo. It is about how much she hates that she loves him and depends on him. They both hate how much they affect each other.
7. SAY IT - 4.1 (3/5) At the start it sounds to me that glitter is falling and has a twinkle feel throughout with the chimes playing. It is a slower song, which is easy listening. The song is about her wanting a man to say it and tell her exactly what he wants and how he feels. It is not an overly memorable song.
8. SELL ME CANDY - 2.46 (2/5) Rihanna talks through this song mostly and she is talking so fast it is hard to know what she is saying. It really is an annoying song and I skip it straight away as it just sounds like noise to me. To be honest I am not sure what the song is about, as I can't make out what anyone is saying. I think it might be about a man selling her candy, which is forbidden, but I could be totally wrong.
9. LEMME GET THAT - 3.41 (2/5) There is a loud booming beat to this song and it has a very r'n'b vibe. You can hear the drums beating constantly throughout like soldiers are playing. It is about men buying things for girls when they complain to keep them right. It is not a great song and really an album filler.
10. REHAB - 4.54 (3/5) This is a relaxing song, which is slow yet it has a strong beat to it. It is about being in love with someone but they were using her but she is addicted to them. So she is going to have to go into rehab. It is a song, which is easy to listen to and grows on you more you listen to it.
11. QUESTION EXISTING - 4.06 (3/5) A dramatic song in which has a popping noise throughout. Rihanna is asking herself 'who is she living for?' and she is letting everyone know that she works in entertainment and that isn't who she is. She doesn't know who to trust and who wants or likes her for herself. She sounds distressed throughout the track and talks in the middles as if she is writing in her diary and letting you know her private thoughts.
12. GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - 3.33 (4/5) Another pop song with Rihanna's usual style. It is easy to listen to and it has a nice beat to it. The song is about how easy it is for a good girl to go bad so men should learn to treat us girl's right. The more I listen to this song the more I like it and it is upbeat with a catchy chorus.
13. CRY(UK BONUS TRACK) - 3.55 (5/5) A dramatic song with the piano playing softly with Rihanna singing. It has a flowly feel to it and is relaxing to listen to. It is about someone hurting her and breaking her heart. This is one of the best songs on the album in my opinion. I could listen to it over and over again.
14. DISTURBIA - 3.58 (5/5) A great dance song with an edgy vibe to it with Rihanna's voice sounding computerised along with the music. It is sure to get you up dancing. It is another favourite of mine on this album. It is about her feeling like she is going insane. At the start I hated this song and the more I heard it the more and more I liked it.
15. TAKE A BOW - 3.49 (5/5) The reason I bought this album! This song is brilliant. I could listen to it over and over it is relaxing and easy to sing along to which you will find yourself doing. It is a slow song, which has the piano playing with a soft, beat in the background. Rihanna shows off her voice again. The song is about a man lying and has got caught so she is kicking him out and it is over. I really love this song.
16. IF I NEVER SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN - MAROON 5 FEAT RIHANNA - 3.18 (3/5) This song is ok but it is not the usual Rihanna style. It is about two people meeting and getting together and they keep coming back for more but they don't mind if they don't see each other again.
**OVERALL** This album costs me £5 on www.play.com, which is great value for what you get. The album has a few weak songs, which are rubbish, but the good songs are great so that really makes up for it. I think Rihanna is a very talented artist and has a fantastic voice. I look forward to hearing future albums she might produce.
